AI-powered Content Pledge

Our pledge

At SuperSummary, we’re committed to developing high-quality literature learning resources grounded in accurate and reliable literary insight.

You can trust that every SuperSummary Study Guide and Teaching Guide is informed by a complete reading of the text and shaped by a rigorous editorial process.

We use AI to expand, personalize, and enhance your reading experience beyond our Guide content. Our goal is to apply LLM technology responsibly to help you explore literature in new and meaningful ways.

While the potential of AI is exciting, we recognize its limitations. That’s why our approach to AI is guided by three key principles:

  • Transparency: We clearly label tools that incorporate AI so that you know when you’re engaging with AI-assisted features:

  • Expert Oversight: We use AI to support—not replace—our human judgment and expertise. Our literary experts review and refine AI-assisted content and tools before they’re published, and they test and improve our AI-assisted experiences to enhance quality and reduce the risk of inaccuracies or bias.
  • Quality Reader Experience: We regularly invite readers to test new features and share their feedback, ensuring that we’re consistently delivering valuable, helpful experiences that deepen literary enjoyment and understanding for real-world readers.

How we use AI

SuperSummary uses generative AI technology in a few targeted ways:

  • To expand formats: For example, we use AI-powered text-to-speech to create audio-narrated versions of our Study Guides, creating a more accessible experience that accommodates different learning styles and needs.
  • To build personalized experiences: AI-powered features like our Discussion Questions tool and Ask SuperSummary empower you to create tailored content and surface answers specific to your needs and context.
  • To expand pathways for engaging with books: AI helps us create spoiler-free resources like Book Briefs and interactive tools for building discussion questions, activities, and more—supplementing our core content library with new layers of context at each stage of the reading journey.

What you can do

As we continue to learn and develop our products and features, our AI-assisted tools may not operate with complete accuracy or may recreate implicit and explicit biases. We encourage you to approach these tools as starting points and verify tools’ assumptions using our expert-developed Study Guides. You may report content that may be harmful, misleading, or biased directly within our tools using the thumbs-up/thumbs-down icons.

Members like you are our most valuable resource in refining and validating our tools and content. We encourage you to participate in survey and interview opportunities when they arise. You can also share your feedback about our tools and their responses by contacting our Customer Support team here.
