Plot Summary

Mina Tepes believes she is half-vampire, half-human, and without magical powers. Her father, Cornelius, sends her as a sacrifice to Malachi, a vampire whom Cornelius has imprisoned with a blood ward. Mina is supposed to supply Malachi with blood and become pregnant with his child.

When she arrives, Malachi is starving and feeds on her blood. As a bloodline vampire, one who was born into vampirism rather than being turned into a vampire, his bites cause Mina to orgasm. He also brings her to orgasm with his mouth and through heavy petting. However, Malachi refuses to take Mina’s virginity until she asks him to. For a week, Malachi trains Mina to be a better fighter, and they exchange blood.

Another bloodline vampire, Wolf, arrives. He is Malachi’s lover. Mina consents to Wolf biting her to get back at Malachi for not having sex with her. Wolf invites Mina to watch him and Malachi have sex. Mina does and joins in. Malachi takes her virginity, and they all exchange blood. After more group sex, Malachi’s other lover, Rylan, arrives. He bites Mina, and she orgasms. He is older than the other vampires and notices that Mina isn’t just part-vampire.

Rylan, Wolf, Malachi, and Mina have ritual sex to break the blood ward. They all learn that she is a seraph. This means that she bonds with her sexual partners and can compel them without their consent. Breaking the blood ward catches Cornelius’s attention, and the polycule goes on the run.

In their hideouts, Rylan resists his desire for Mina. Meanwhile, Malachi and Wolf try to get her pregnant. The pregnancy of a seraph with magical powers would make her Cornelius’s rightful heir. She can take his place after killing him. After a month, the bond pulls Mina and Rylan together. During sex, he bites her too deeply, and Mina has to compel Malachi to stop him from killing Rylan.

There is more sex between various combinations of the polycule members. At first, Rylan only sleeps with Mina. Eventually, everyone has sex together a second time. They intentionally choose to be a unit, and this leads to them sharing their magical powers. Everyone can use Wolf’s power over blood, Malachi’s power over fire, and Rylan’s power to shapeshift. Mina’s scars disappear, and she becomes stronger.

Mina wants to find a way to break the seraph bond so that her men have free will. Wolf summons a demon named Azazel. Azazel’s deal to break the bond is for Mina to serve in the demon realm for seven years. Mina’s men don’t want her to take that deal. Shortly after they reject Azazel’s offer, Cornelius’s people arrive. With his powers of compulsion and a greater number of vampires, Cornelius takes Malachi, Wolf, and Rylan. Mina escapes and meets the owner of their safehouse, Grace.

Grace is a monster hunter whose family owes Rylan a debt. She and Mina stay in a hotel near Cornelius’s compound. Mina is pregnant and very ill. She dreams of Wolf and compels him against his will to tell her how to summon Azazel. Azazel creates a shield around Mina’s fetus to protect her magic and make her healthy again. Azazel is willing to make a deal: If Mina spends seven years in the demon realm, he will free her men from Cornelius. Grace offers to take Mina’s place in the demon realm to look for her mother, who made a deal with Azazel and never returned. Azazel accepts these terms and teleports Mina and her men to a new safehouse.

Mina must find humans to heal her starved and drugged men. She goes to a bar. Two men and the bartender try to drug and date rape her. After playing along, Mina knocks the men unconscious in the parking lot and brings them to Malachi, Wolf, and Rylan. The human blood heals them. After feeding, they have sex, and Mina goes into a blood frenzy. Her men are barely able to keep her from compelling them to give her all their blood. Eventually, she gets full and calms down.

Rylan calls his mother, who explains that seraphs, who were thought to be extinct, used to drain many vampires during their pregnancies. After more sex, they plan to attack Cornelius at his compound. To keep him from using his powers of compulsion, they need someone to shoot out his throat from a safe distance. Only Wolf’s sister, Lizzie, has the long-range shooting skills they need. Fifty years ago, she set Wolf on fire. After learning this, Mina comforts Wolf with sex.

Lizzie agrees to help in exchange for a favor, as she feels guilty about nearly killing Wolf. While Malachi, Wolf, and Rylan start fires and fight their way into the compound, Mina surrenders herself and asks to be made heir. Cornelius refuses and compels her to kneel and serve him. Lizzie shoots out Cornelius’s throat. Mina tries to behead her father with Grace’s knife, but she fails.

Mina uses Rylan’s shapeshifting power to turn her hands into wolf claws, then uses them to cut off Cornelius’s head. She sets it, and his body, on fire with Malachi’s power. This scares anyone from challenging her. She introduces her partners and takes over the compound with them. Some vampires leave, but most stay and serve Mina and her polycule loyally.

Four years later, Mina and her men have three children—a son named Asher and twins. Lizzie asks to come visit the compound. Wolf agrees because they are powerful and supported. The men don’t feel like Lizzie can harm them. They are a happy family in addition to being respected rulers.

In the epilogue, Azazel prepares to auction off humans, including Grace, in the demon realm. He hopes this will bring peace.
