C.M. Nascosta’s Morning Glory Milking Farm (2022) is a monster romance novel and the first installment in the interconnected standalone Cambric Creek series. The story follows Violet, a recent master’s graduate overwhelmed by student loan debt, who takes an unconventional but high-paying job as a “milking technician” at a pharmaceutical company. She soon discovers her job is to manually collect semen from minotaur clients, a strange reality that becomes complicated when she develops a crush on Rourke, a stern and recurring client. The novel explores themes of The Commodification of Bodily Autonomy and Labor, Navigating Cultural Differences to Find Belonging, and The Struggle to Navigate Professional and Personal Boundaries.

A USA Today bestselling author, C.M. Nascosta is a prominent voice in the monster romance subgenre. Morning Glory Milking Farm gained significant popularity through social media platforms like TikTok, where it became a viral sensation that introduced many readers to the niche genre. Set in the fictional multispecies town of Cambric Creek, the novel taps into the real-world economic anxieties of the millennial generation, using its fantastical premise to explore a generational struggle for financial stability. Subsequent books in the series, such as Sweet Berries and Moon Blooded Breeding Clinic, revisit the town and feature overlapping characters, further developing the world introduced in this novel.

Plot Summary

Violet, a recent master’s graduate, is struggling financially in the city of Bridgeton, burdened by student loans and barely able to afford rent. At a low point, her mother calls, urging her to move back to her small, stifling hometown and live in the loft above her parents’ garage. Desperate to maintain her independence, Violet searches for any job with a living wage. She discovers a listing for a “milking technician” at Morning Glory Farm, a pharmaceutical subsidiary in the neighboring multispecies suburb of Cambric Creek. The ad promises a high salary and full benefits with no experience required, so she applies immediately. After a brief video interview, she is invited to the farm for the final step in the hiring process.

Upon arriving in the quaint town of Cambric Creek, Violet joins a group of prospective hires, noting she is the only human among orcs, trolls, and goblins. A tour of the facility reveals a sterile, clinical environment behind the friendly barn façade, but Violet is shocked to learn the “milking” process is manual. A technician on a lower level stimulates a minotaur, whose penis protrudes through an opening in a bilevel “breeding bench.” Minotaur semen is a useful pharmaceutical commodity in producing erectile dysfunction pills, hence the lucrative business, and the clients are paid based on how much they produce.

Horrified but desperate, Violet accepts the position. She begins training with Kirime, a cheerful employee with antennae, learning the farm’s strict protocols and the different client archetypes: business-like “Earners,” impatient “Clockwatchers,” and fetish-driven “Good Little Cows.” For her first solo milking, she is assigned to a Clockwatcher, a stern minotaur with messy, pecan-brown hair and a gold nose ring. While working, Violet discovers a technique of stimulating him that excites the otherwise stoic client. Though she doesn’t otherwise find the job sexual, the experience triggers a surprising arousal in Violet, and he leaves her a hundred-dollar bill as a tip. That night, she fantasizes about him, developing a crush.

Over the next few weeks, Violet becomes a proficient technician and begins exploring the vibrant community of Cambric Creek. The Clockwatcher puts in a special request for her. During his next appointment, they have their first real conversation, and he recommends a local coffee shop, the Black Sheep Beanery. The session is charged with flirtatious energy, deepening her attraction. Later, at the coffee shop, Violet is befriended by Geillis, a vampire, and they bond over their unconventional jobs.

The Clockwatcher begins visiting every week, requesting Violet, and they develop a familiarity with each other. Violet then runs into the Clockwatcher at Black Sheep Beanery and learns his name is Rourke when the barista invites him and a woman named Lurielle to a party. Assuming Lurielle is his partner, a hurt Violet acts cold and claims to be meeting a “lunch date” instead of Geillis. At their next appointment, he swiftly reassures her that Lurielle is his neighbor; he was married once but has been divorced for two years. They joke about their misunderstanding.

Shortly after, Violet’s great-aunt Gracie passes away, and she takes two weeks off for the funeral. Rourke is delighted when she returns, though he can tell she’s upset. When she explains her bereavement, Rourke asks her for coffee after her shift to talk about it, which becomes their first official date. There, he says he’d like to start seeing her romantically.

They begin a relationship, exploring Cambric Creek and Bridgeton together. Rourke pauses his farm visits to establish clear boundaries outside of their professional dynamic. While he remains a gentleman, Violet grows sexually frustrated as their physical intimacy does not progress beyond intense kissing. Following Geillis’s advice, Violet tries to seduce him, but he takes time to ensure she is consenting and prepared for physical intimacy with him as she’s never been in a cross-species relationship. The following Friday, Violet goes to his house, and they have sex for the first time, an intense experience that solidifies their connection.

Over the subsequent months, their relationship deepens. With help from Lurielle, Violet interviews for and is offered a research position at the Slade Foundation in Cambric Creek, a job perfectly suited to her art history degree. She decides to keep two shifts a week at the farm and, with Geillis’s help, finds an apartment in town. In the final scene, Rourke is doing yard work in a “MEGA MILKERZ” T-shirt earned through the farm’s client reward program for frequent “donations.” He visits the farm for his appointment, where they are now a comfortable, playful couple. Violet plans her move to Cambric Creek with him, but he implies she should be ready to move in with him soon enough. The story ends with them planning a date, their future as a committed couple secure.
