Part 3: “Friday”

Part 3, Chapter 26 Summary: “Bella”

On Friday morning, Bella surprises the women with a snorkeling outing on a yacht she rented. Lexi is amazed and excited, which makes Bella feel better, but on the yacht, she notices that Fen seems distant and lost in thought. She tries to approach and ask if Fen is okay, but as usual Fen replies that she is “fine.” When Bella mentions the possibility of coming back next summer, Fen doesn’t reply, and Bella realizes that Fen might be planning to break up with her. She wishes that they had never run into Bella’s old co-worker at the airport, because the resulting conversation revealed the reason why Bella left her job as a nurse.

Part 3, Chapter 27 Summary: “Fen”

Fen regrets coming back to the island, because all it does is remind her of what happened seven years ago, when she was assaulted by a man named Nico. Bella tries to touch Fen, but it only irritates her, and Fen can’t help wondering how their relationship became so unsatisfying. She knows she feels attracted to Bella, but it occurs to her that she doesn’t actually love Bella.
