Shoshanna is a fiercely protective eighth-grader at Hiawassee Middle School. She harbors deep anger toward Chase and his friends for relentlessly terrorizing her twin brother, eventually forcing him to transfer to a boarding school. She is an aspiring video journalist who approaches her projects with perfectionism and dedication.

Brendan is the highly intelligent, enthusiastic president of the school's video club. He constantly plots elaborate, often disastrous stunts in his quest to create a viral YouTube video. Despite being a frequent target of bullying, he approaches the post-accident Chase with an open mind.

Aaron is a football player and one of Chase's two closest friends from before the accident. He is devious and accustomed to getting his way through intimidation. He views Chase's amnesia with deep skepticism, eager for his friend to resume their reign over the school.

Bear is a large, powerful eighth-grader who plays on the Hiawassee middle school football team. He lacks impulse control and relies on his physical size to intimidate other students. He expects Chase to immediately fall back into their old, destructive habits.

Joel is Shoshanna's twin brother and a highly talented pianist with perfect pitch. He currently attends Melton Conservatory, a musically oriented prep school, because he was driven out of Hiawassee by relentless bullying. He is deeply unhappy at the conservatory but terrified of returning home to face his abusers.

Mr. Solway is an elderly resident at the Portland Street Assisted Living Residence. He is a Korean War veteran and a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, though he cannot remember the act of bravery that earned him the award. He maintains a crusty exterior but enjoys sharing outrageous stories with his visitors.

Chase's mother is a concerned parent trying to guide her son through his recovery. She is aware of his past terrible behavior and hopes his amnesia will give him a chance to start fresh. She frequently tries to shield him from the more unsavory details of his history to protect his new outlook.

Frank is Chase's father and a local legend who played on Hiawassee's only other state championship football team. He lives with his new wife and young daughter. He places an enormous emphasis on athletic success, constantly pushing Chase to return to the football field regardless of his medical condition.

Kimberly is an eighth-grade student with a singular focus on getting Chase's attention. She has a longstanding crush on him and uses his amnesia as an opportunity to insert herself into his life. She joins the video club despite having no technical skills or interest in filmmaking.

Corinne is Frank Ambrose's younger wife and Chase's stepmother. She is protective of her young daughter and maintains a reserved, wary distance from Chase due to his history of thoughtless cruelty toward her child.
