His primary goal as a spirit is to ensure his controversial, hidden negatives are exposed to the public.

Jaki is an impassioned journalist and Maali's highly loyal best friend. Coming from a wealthy, Westernized background, she frequently pushes against societal expectations to search for the truth. She actively searches for Maali's hidden negatives, putting her own safety on the line to honor his legacy.

DD is Maali's closeted boyfriend and the son of a high-ranking government minister. Educated abroad, he comes from a privileged, Westernized family but chooses to work in environmental advocacy in Sri Lanka rather than flee the ongoing civil war. He agonizes over Maali's infidelities but remains deeply attached to him.

Stanley is DD's father and an influential figure in the Sri Lankan government. He maintains strict, traditional views on family and society, strongly disapproving of his son's lifestyle choices and his association with Maali. He uses his vast political connections to assert control over police investigations and protect his family's public image.

These three interconnected figures represent different layers of corruption and evil operating within Sri Lanka. The Mahakali is a terrifying, soul-devouring afterlife demon that feeds on pain; Colonel Wijeratne is the corrupt Minister of Justice who confiscates evidence to protect his reputation; and Major Raja is an abusive military commanding officer who runs secret torture facilities. Together, they form a collective force of violent authoritarianism across both the living world and the afterlife.

Sena is the ghost of a young JVP Marxist insurgent who died violently. He strongly opposes moving on to eternal peace, choosing instead to use his spiritual form to cause chaos and enact vengeance. He attempts to recruit Maali and other newly deceased spirits into a supernatural army to strike back against the living.

Elsa is a Canadian-Sri Lankan who directs Canada Norway Third World Relief (CNTR), an international organization that ostensibly aids victims of the war. She actively seeks to acquire Maali's controversial negatives, bringing her into direct conflict with corrupt government officials. Her motivations mix altruism with clear career advancement.

Dr. Ranee is the ghost of an assassinated university professor who acts as an afterlife guide, or "Helper." She firmly believes in moving on from earthly attachments and instructs newly dead spirits on how to find the Light. She attempts to protect Maali from darker supernatural forces and teaches him how to communicate through dreams.

Amma is Maali's mother. She maintains a highly strained, distant relationship with her son, colored by past family trauma, hidden letters, and unspoken resentments. Despite their long periods of estrangement, she pushes the authorities to find him when he disappears.

Crow Man is a mysterious living individual who communicates directly with spirits. He functions as a supernatural broker, translating messages between ghosts and the living in exchange for spiritual currency and offerings.

Kottu is a worker employed to illegally dispose of bodies during the civil conflict. He approaches his grim task with a desensitized, practical mindset, operating as a small cog in a massive machine of oppression.

Balal works alongside Kottu as a "garbage man," handling the secret disposal of corpses for various political and military factions. Like his partner, he tries to distance himself emotionally from the horrors he witnesses.

Kugarajah is Elsa's cousin and a relief organization director. He secretly maintains ties to militant groups and intelligence services, operating with highly ambiguous motives under the guise of humanitarian aid.
