Activity

Use these activities to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.

ACTIVITY: “____’s Will”

When Beth is first ill with scarlet fever, Amy takes it upon herself to write a will that reflects her values and illuminates her character as the youngest March sister still looking for her place in the world. Pick another of the characters in the book and use the format of a last will and testament to make a character sketch of them. What do they value about themselves and what they own? Who would they give it to and why?

Teaching Suggestion: Have students re-read Amy’s will beforehand, guiding them to see how what she gives away demonstrates her character traits; then help students brainstorm one or two character traits for each sibling and Laurie to get the ball rolling.
