Chapter 27 Summary: “Alexa’s Follow-Up”

Erin and her crew film Alexa’s release from prison. Unlike Holli, Alexa thrives in her freedom and new possibilities. During filming, Mark calls with exciting updates about the business he’s building. Hector, an associate, will join Mark as a partner, and Erin feels things will truly be all right now. That night, she falls asleep “smiling like an idiot” (224). Erin accompanies Alexa to a fertility clinic the next day, where Alexa’s ability to get pregnant looks promising. Erin’s relationship with Alexa moves from professional to personal. Alexa fits well into the new life Erin is forming, and Erin cares “very much what happens to her next” (226).

Chapter 28 Summary: “Strange Things”

Erin goes to Penton Prison to prepare for Eddie’s interview the following day. On her way out, a man named Patrick stops her wanting to know why she’s there. Erin explains the documentary, feeling annoyed the prison isn’t on top of things. After the man walks away, Erin realizes the man “didn’t mention his surname” (229). Her paranoia returns with the knowledge an unidentified stranger knows her name and where she’ll be the next day. She double checks with the prison, but no one named Patrick works there, leaving her to wonder if he’s associated with the plane.
