Part 1, Chapter 7 Summary

Gabby begins her day intending to care for Molly and her puppies. However, she is met with the chaos that comes with puppies—a messy situation that leaves her frustrated and contemplating Travis’s seemingly manipulative actions. Gabby reflects on her changing relationship with Kevin and their current dynamic’s lack of excitement and spontaneity.

As Gabby navigates the mess left by the puppies, her frustration grows, and she contemplates the motives behind Travis’s actions, particularly his attempt to get her on the boat the previous day. Gabby feels a sense of dissatisfaction with her current life and relationship, contrasting it with the memories of more exciting times.

A chance encounter with Travis, shirtless and working outside, shifts the mood. They engage in small talk, but when Travis asks why Gabby hasn’t built the suggested pen for the puppies, tension arises. Travis senses something amiss and presses Gabby for an explanation. Unwilling to admit her attraction to him, Gabby suggests starting over in their acquaintance, and after a brief hesitation, Travis agrees. They formally reintroduce themselves, leading to an unexpected offer from Travis for an afternoon on the boat with his friends.

Gabby initially declines the invitation, citing the need to build a pen for the puppies.
