Chapter 11 Summary

Olive, still reeling from last night’s revelations, finds Ethan is grouchy. He does not appreciate that she brought breakfast and asks her if Sophie saw her downstairs alone. After she assures him his fruit is not from a buffet, he remembers Dane dating a woman with a mango tattoo. This shocks Olive when he explains that this was when Ami and Dane were together but in a nonexclusive relationship. Olive hides her emotions as long as possible, but Ethan becomes angry once he realizes she has led him to betray his brother’s confidence. Olive refuses to believe her sister would be non-monogamous. Ethan tells Olive she cannot tell Ami and reveals that Dane said “ not to bother with you, that you were angry all the time’” (227).

Ethan shocks her further by explaining that when they first met, he wanted to ask her for a date. He has no idea what she is talking about when she suggests he acted like her eating habits and body were disgusting. Olive briefly considers that maybe he was right about her negativity but blames Ethan for believing Dane’s version of her. Ethan tries to get her to understand his blurred text
