A Few Good Men centers on the death of Private Santiago, a Marine killed during a Code Red hazing at Guantanamo Bay. Navy lawyer Daniel Kaffee is assigned to defend the two accused Marines, Dawson and Downey, despite his reputation for avoiding courtrooms at all costs. After traveling to Cuba to meet the base's commanding officer, Kaffee begins to suspect a cover-up that reaches all the way to Colonel Jessup. When his clients reject a generous plea deal on principle, Kaffee is forced to take the case to trial for the first time in his career. Evidence arrives from a guilt-ridden witness proving that Jessup lied about Santiago's transfer, giving Kaffee the leverage he needs to confront the colonel directly. In a climactic courtroom showdown, Jessup confesses to ordering the Code Red, is arrested, and Dawson and Downey are acquitted of murder — though dishonorably discharged.

Behind the main trial, a web of secondary events reveals the full story of Santiago's death and the characters around it. Santiago's desperate letters and the personal dynamics at the Guantanamo Bay base establish the conditions that led to the Code Red. The legal team's trip to Cuba exposes Jessup's evasiveness, while Galloway's persistent challenges to senior officers signal the likely presence of a cover-up. During the trial itself, witnesses including Corporal Howard and Lieutenant Kendrick each reveal key pieces of the puzzle from the stand. Markinson's suicide removes the defense's most powerful potential witness, but not before his evidence reaches Kaffee. The trial concludes with Dawson's meaningful salute to Kaffee — a gesture that marks both a personal reconciliation and the story's emotional resolution.
