Rania arrives at the museum party alive and healthy, and Resilience is overjoyed to be reunited with her.

The story begins when Resilience first becomes aware in a NASA lab, where he bonds with scientists Xander and Rania and meets the rover Journey. After years of preparation and an emotional farewell, Resilience launches to Mars with his drone companion Fly and lands safely on the planet's surface. On Mars, the satellite Guardian joins Resilience and Fly as they work toward two objectives: locating the lost rover Courage and finding evidence of past life. When Resilience finally reaches Courage and discovers the rover's memory is completely wiped, he commits to a desperate search for a geological sample that will guarantee his passage home. A perilous climb toward a Martian tunnel ends in a catastrophic fall that sends Resilience offline for many years. He eventually wakes on Earth with his memory intact, and the story closes with a joyful museum reunion with Rania.

This pool traces the human and mechanical textures of the rover's story, from Sophie's very first letter to the celebrations at the museum. Resilience endures frustrating rounds of testing in pieces, forms a genuine friendship with Journey through machine language, and survives the grueling Shake and Bake simulation before being declared ready to launch. The launch sequence is filled with uncertainty, from being packed into a crate and taken from the lab to being reunited with Fly inside the rocket. Once on Mars, Resilience runs post-landing checks, begins exploring, and first encounters the mysterious sound that will obsess him throughout the mission. The most harrowing moments include his wheels becoming trapped as a dust storm closes in and his choice to defy scientists' orders in order to save Fly, a decision that reveals how deeply the rover has internalized loyalty. The pool closes with both Sophie and Resilience arriving at the museum, each having completed a long journey of their own.
