Chapter Summaries & Analyses
Tobias goes to the control room and watches the cameras in Chicago. He sees Marcus standing outside a building, and Tobias then watches Johana approach him. She says she assumes Marcus contacted her because she leads the Allegiant, and he wants an ally. Johana also asks if he was abusive to his family, but he denies it. Marcus says he wants to restore the peace of the factions and that they can control Evelyn’s power if they control the weapons. He then asks if he can lead the Allegiant alongside Johana. As he watches, Tobias knows his father’s intentions and wants to warn Johana but can’t. Johana agrees to let Marcus help her, and Tobias turns to leave the room. As he does, he sees Evelyn on another screen. A woman enters and tells Evelyn they haven’t seen any signs of Marcus.
Zoe leads Tris to David’s office. He is in a wheelchair, and both legs are bound in casts. David thanks Tris for her bravery and says he’d like her to train for a position on the Bureau’s council. She will need to attend the council meetings and learn about the compound and its functions.
