Before the supernatural events take hold, Miranda's daily reality is defined by dismissal — Grace helps her practically but with skepticism, Ellie alone defends her at rehearsal, and neither her ex-husband Paul nor her physical therapist Mark treats her suffering as real. After the mysterious men first appear, Miranda's transformation is tracked through quieter but equally significant scenes: lying to Ellie about the bath salts, flirting with Hugo over whiskey in his workshop, and visiting the unlicensed therapist John in a state of desperate performance. The second chapter of her transformation unfolds as Miranda grabs Mark's wrist during an aggressive therapy session and watches her agony transfer into him, then meets a flirtatious Scottish bartender who becomes a one-night companion. Hugo's romantic pursuit deepens through a carefully staged Edinburgh set recreation that blurs Miranda's past and present, while Briana's shocking audition as the ailing King signals that Miranda's power has reshaped the entire production. By opening night, Miranda arrives unrecognizable — salt-crusted and eerily calm — as the stage prepares for its final, cathartic performance.

Miranda's path toward moral collapse begins with two quietly devastating moments: Hugo's Macbeth maquette confirming the administration's betrayal, and a suicidal drive home that ends at the bar instead of a cliff. The administration's pressure in the dean's office and Miranda's subsequent discoveries — Briana's mysterious illness, Ellie's genuine belief in her own healing powers — force Miranda to choose between honesty and self-protection, and she consistently chooses the latter. As Briana openly accuses her at rehearsal and Grace stumbles upon the truth in the pub basement, Miranda's grip on reality and ethics loosens further, and she deflects every confrontation with performance. Hugo's increasingly disturbed responses to her erratic behavior and her demonstrated inability to feel pain signal how thoroughly her identity has been hollowed out by the bargain. By opening night, having placed Ellie's bath salts one last chance to redirect her fate, Miranda is left to face the consequences of every choice she has made — from the dean's office to the ocean's edge and finally the shattered pub.

The pivotal decisions, confrontations, and revelations that drove Miranda's moral unraveling.
