A second police lineup and relentless FBI pressure slowly dismantle Sarah's defenses, though her loyalty never fully breaks. The investigation unlocks key revelations: that the FBI has no record of Paige, that social media made Ella a target, and that the basement explosives were detonated deliberately from the outside. As life in Ella's home becomes a battleground, smaller turning points accumulate—Ella's symbolic head-shaving, Sarah's strategic decision to move in, and Ella's secret descent into alcohol. Randy's explanation of Stockholm Syndrome, though internally rejected by Sarah, gives a critical framework for understanding how loyalty to an abuser can feel indistinguishable from love. The final rupture comes not through the courtroom but through violence in Ella's own bedroom, after which a mental health crisis forces a confrontation between mother and daughter that finally allows healing to begin. Separated at last, the two girls set off on radically different and uncertain paths.
