The story begins with the Falodun women attending Monife's funeral, where Ebun's labor is triggered and she gives birth to a daughter whose haunting resemblance to the deceased aunt leads Aunty Bunmi to declare the baby a reincarnation. At the naming ceremony, the infant receives three names—Motitunde, Abidemi, and Eniiyi—with each name reflecting a different woman's interpretation of the child's identity. In flashback, Monife's passionate romance with Kalu develops through a chance meeting at a football match and a stolen kiss at a house party, setting the tragic love story in motion. Decades later, a grown Eniiyi returns home and is drawn into a fateful encounter when she rescues a drowning man named Zubby from the same beach where Monife died. The discovery that Zubby is Kalu's son forces the past and present into collision, while Tolu's long-held confession about a deleted message and a manipulated pregnancy reveals the full truth of what drove Monife to her death. Eniiyi ultimately breaks the cycle by accepting a job abroad and leaving the Falodun house and its haunted legacy behind.

This pool traces the spiritual and domestic undercurrents running beneath the main plot, beginning with Monife's ghostly visit to the newborn in the hospital and the supernatural pool of water she leaves behind. Monife's story unfolds through her fierce resistance to the family's reliance on the spiritualist Mama G—a resistance that ultimately collapses when she turns to the same juju she once scorned in a desperate bid to keep Kalu from drifting toward Amara. The practical consequences of the family's superstitious environment are felt by the next generation, as Ebun's fear for her young daughter drives her first to brutal swimming lessons after a near-drowning, then to a violent confrontation when she discovers twelve-year-old Eniiyi embracing Monife's identity. Eniiyi's decision to flee to boarding school marks the first act in her long journey toward selfhood, and the symbolic cutting of her hair signals the moment Ebun finally lets her go. In the present, Ebun's extreme reaction to seeing Zubby's face reveals how deeply buried her secrets remain, and the epilogue closes the cycle as Monife's spirit defeats the curse in the very ocean where she perished.

This pool focuses on the revelations and turning-point decisions that drive the narrative's emotional core, beginning with Ebun's discovery that Monife has been erased from the family home and Eniiyi's terrifying dream in which her dead aunt speaks in her own voice. Key moments from Monife's story emerge through Eniiyi's investigation—the discovery of a notebook cataloguing generations of heartbreak and Tolu's confession that Monife's death at Elegushi beach was no accident. The Monife flashbacks reveal two critical decisions that sealed her fate: her choice to bury Kalu's handkerchief under the iroko tree as a charm, followed later by her use of Mama G's love potion, which ultimately destroyed their relationship when discovered. In the present, the collision of genetics and superstition peaks when Osagie recognizes his own vitiligo birthmark on Eniiyi, exposing decades of secrecy about her parentage and the lengths Ebun went to in order to shield her daughter from the curse. Eniiyi's deliberate act of sleeping with Funsho and her ceremonial return of Monife's buried tin and Zubby's bracelet mark her final steps toward claiming a life that is wholly her own.
