Xavier March arrives at Lake Havel where a body has washed ashore near the homes of powerful Nazi Party members.

Fingerprint records confirm the dead man is Josef Buhler, a pioneering Nazi Party member from the earliest days of the movement.

March searches Buhler's home and slips away with a package from the mailbox just as SS General Globus and his men arrive.

March learns Buhler recently met with retired officials Wilhelm Stuckart and Martin Luther before dying, and reads Stuckart's fresh obituary.

March locates American journalist Charlie Maguire and persuades her to return with him to Stuckart's apartment to continue the investigation.

March hands Charlie an unmarked envelope from Stuckart's safe deposit box seconds before Gestapo officers flood the apartment building.

Globus reveals stolen artwork hidden behind a false panel in Buhler's basement, claiming Buhler, Stuckart, and Luther were art thieves.

Kripo chief Nebe warns March that he must solve the case by the Führertag holiday or face court-martial and imprisonment.

March and Charlie visit a Zürich bank and open the deposit box, finding only a stolen Leonardo da Vinci painting inside.

Luther contacts Charlie seeking US asylum in exchange for explosive information, and March, Charlie, and Embassy official Henry Nightingale plan a handoff meeting.

Luther arrives at the meeting point near the Great Hall and is shot dead before he can hand over any information.

Airport security produces a locked briefcase that Luther left behind after his return from Zürich on his final trip.

Inside the briefcase, March finds dozens of Wannsee Conference documents proving Nazi Germany planned and executed the murder of millions of Jews.

March gives Charlie all the documents and instructs her to cross into Switzerland, publishing the story if the US government refuses to help.

Surrounded by closing police at the site of the former Auschwitz death camp, March finds old bricks confirming the camp existed and draws his weapon.

Xavier March's investigation begins when a body is pulled from Lake Havel and identified as Josef Buhler, a pioneering Nazi official. As March follows the trail to Buhler's connections, he teams with American journalist Charlie Maguire to uncover a Swiss bank account linking three retired government men. Their search eventually leads to a briefcase containing documents from the Wannsee Conference, which prove that Nazi Germany systematically murdered millions of Jewish people. When Luther, the last surviving man who knew the truth, is assassinated before he can defect, March and Charlie take matters into their own hands. March sends Charlie toward Switzerland with the documents while staying behind, ultimately walking into the ruins of Auschwitz with the certainty that the truth will finally reach the world.

The headline investigation: from Buhler's body to the Final Solution.

March finds a 1929 photograph of the Weiss family hidden in his apartment and learns they were Jewish residents deported during the war.

Globus shoots Buhler's muzzled and injured dog without hesitation when it runs toward him during the search of Buhler's property.

March opens the stolen package from Buhler's mailbox and finds birthday chocolates that play Hitler's favorite waltz when the lid is lifted.

March calls Luther's home, learns he has gone missing, and realizes Globus is already there listening in the background.

Jaeger arrives at Stuckart's apartment with locksmith Stiefel, who cracks the locked safe open as Gestapo vehicles pull up outside.

Gestapo commander Krebs takes March and Jaeger to headquarters overnight, treating them politely but keeping them confined and separated for hours.

A Gestapo intruder ransacks Charlie's apartment searching for the bank envelope until March and Charlie overpower and drive him out.

March and historian Halder search the Reichsarchiv and uncover Heydrich's original invitation to a secret interdepartmental meeting listing all participants.

Globus presents March with a mutilated body found on train tracks alongside Martin Luther's passport and declares the case officially closed.

This pool covers the investigative groundwork March lays as he works the Buhler case against the Gestapo's wishes. From the moment Jost's suspicious witness statement raises early doubts to the discovery of connections between the three retired officials, March steadily uncovers the layers of deception protecting powerful men. Secondary characters like Halder, Fiebes, Stiefel, and Krebs play crucial roles in advancing the case while the SS applies increasing pressure to make it disappear. Key discoveries in this pool include the muzzled dog and the birthday chocolates at Buhler's home, the uneasy overnight detention at Gestapo headquarters, and the bombshell found in the Reichsarchiv that first links the three men to a secret wartime meeting. The false conclusion offered by Globus — that Luther's supposed death on the train tracks closes everything — turns out to be the biggest deception of all.

The clues, contacts, and cover-ups behind the main investigation.

Pili accuses March of being an asocial and reveals that the Gestapo has maintained an official file on his father for years.

Historian Halder explains that over a million Jewish people were displaced east during the war in an operation described only as resettlement.

March discovers Buhler's boat has fresh marks of recent use, suggesting Buhler was murdered elsewhere before being placed in the lake.

Jost confesses that he saw Globus and two other men arrive by car at Lake Havel the morning Buhler's body was found.

Charlie admits Stuckart secretly contacted her before his death, asking for help escaping Germany in exchange for a dangerous news story.

March deliberately writes a false report to Nebe after returning from Zürich, claiming he found nothing of value in the Swiss bank box.

March reviews the Wannsee Conference invitation and discovers that all 13 other officials who attended have since died under suspicious circumstances.

Charlie plays two recorded phone calls from Luther proving he is still alive, meaning the body on the train tracks belonged to someone else.

Charlie identifies the Zürich painting from an art reference book as Leonardo da Vinci's Lady with an Ermine, missing from Krakow since 1932.

March reads Stuckart's sworn affidavit describing how Heydrich told him Hitler personally ordered the execution of all Jews under German control.

March reads Luther's handwritten account of watching two thousand women and children herded into a gas chamber and executed at Auschwitz.

Pili asks March to read from war picture books, then clutches his legs while police smash through the windows to arrest his father.

Globus smashes March's hand with a baseball bat during interrogation, demanding Charlie's location while March endures the pain to buy her time.

Krebs diverts a prison transport into a dark alley, leads March to Nebe waiting in the shadows, and hands him a pistol to escape.

March holds Jaeger at gunpoint inside the moving car and forces him to confess that he has been reporting everything to Globus.

This pool traces the moments of discovery and personal reckoning that transform March from a cautious investigator into a man willing to sacrifice everything. Early revelations — Pili's accusation about the Gestapo file, Halder's vague description of wartime resettlement, and Jost's eyewitness confession about Globus — slowly erode March's ability to ignore the corruption surrounding him. The identification of the stolen painting, the exposure of Luther's faked death, and the devastating contents of Stuckart's affidavit and Luther's Auschwitz account force March to confront the full scale of the atrocity his government committed. Betrayal arrives from his own son, his own partner, and even those who claimed to be allies, making March's refusal to break under torture all the more significant. These turning points collectively mark the moral transformation of one man's investigation into a final act of defiance against a regime built on lies.

The key revelations and decisions that push March from detective to truth-seeker.
