After the fight, Rip praises Auren and reveals his trusted inner circle will protect her fae secret from others.

While Auren adjusts to captivity in Fourth's army, small but meaningful encounters with the cook Keg, the captain Lu, and the mender Hojat begin dismantling her belief that the outside world is purely hostile. Queen Malina moves in parallel, reclaiming her authority in Highbell by securing noble alliances and seizing control of the kingdom's communications. A truth-for-truth dinner with Rip, a wine-barrel heist with Lu, and a sobering argument about freedom plant the seeds of Auren's changing perspective. News of the Red Raids' failure delights Malina, while Auren's illness forces her power into the open before she is ready. Inspired by Lu's blunt advice to choose herself, Auren finally decides to train as a warrior—a decision that changes everything. The arc closes with Midas and King Ravinger's cold political negotiation, where gold is rejected in favor of land with far darker implications.

From the moment Auren recognizes Rip as a hidden fae, a series of confrontations and revelations systematically dismantle the worldview Midas built for her. Osrik's blunt hostility, a painful flashback of Malina's cruelty, and Rip's relentless questioning of her shame about her ribbons force Auren to see herself and her captor more clearly. A disastrous misread of the fight circle and the heartbreaking absence of her personal guard expose the depth of her isolation, while a mysterious merchant's map hints at a wider world Auren never knew existed. Training with the Wrath allows her to reclaim her ribbons as a source of strength rather than shame, and a whispered confession under a mourning moon draws her closer to her own fae identity. The arc reaches its climax when Auren refuses Midas's cage and declares she belongs to herself, before watching helplessly as he reduces their decade-long bond to a single ruthless confession.
