Pool 1 captures the headline events across Banu Mushtaq's twelve stories, tracing the major turning points that define each narrative. Beginning with Zeenat's introduction to Shaista's household, the events follow the devastating consequences of patriarchal control across multiple women's lives. Through stories of abandonment, betrayal, and violence—from Munni's death in 'Black Cobras' to Mehrun's near-self-immolation in 'Heart Lamp'—the collection builds a portrait of women straining against oppressive structures. Secondary storylines about religious hypocrisy, class inequality, and material vanity add breadth to this critique. The pool concludes with the collection's final act of defiance, as the narrator of the last story appeals directly to Allah to witness the suffering that patriarchal society inflicts on women.

These events include the conversations, confrontations, and discoveries that give the major plot turns their weight—from Shaista's heartfelt confession about Asifa's future to Arif's cheerful reassurance of the waiting boys at the khatna. Secondary characters like Zulekha Begum and the community women reveal the social dynamics that either trap or liberate the women around them.
