When Ceto later revealed that Athena had killed her oldest, monstrous-looking children during the Gigantomachy, the source of her mother's deep hatred finally came into focus. After the curse, Medusa and her transformed sisters defended their island from waves of predatory men before Appolonia arrived enslaved on a sea-captain's ship, prompting Medusa to choose love and leave with her.
