They distribute CDs across Brooklyn, catch the attention of music executive Pierce Williams, and are forced into increasingly desperate lies to keep Steph's death a secret. A confrontation with the police reveals that investigators were not even aware Steph had died, deepening the mystery surrounding his murder. The group discovers an unfinished song, which Jasmine completes in a recording studio to impress Pierce and keep the scheme alive. When rival rapper Fast Pace threatens to expose the Architect as a police informant, the kids escalate their investigation and steal a tape that names the real killer. By working with both the music industry and a sympathetic detective, they finally uncover the truth about who ordered Steph's death.

At a neighborhood party, the group learns Mack ordered Bumpy to kill both Rashad and Steph to protect his drug territory.

Behind the main scheme lies a series of turning points and buried secrets that gradually reveal why Steph was murdered. Flashbacks expose how Steph quietly protected his friends — sabotaging Quadir's drug deal, confronting Jasmine about the Guerillas — while secretly following in his father's dangerous footsteps as a police informant. In the present, small moments of revelation, like Kaven's suspicious reaction to Steph's music and a stranger's overheard comment at Coney Island, slowly tighten the web of clues around the truth. Jasmine's reckoning with her own guilt, the discovery of the detective's pager connection, and the stolen tape naming a killer by name bring everything into sharp focus. Dante's accidental slip confirms the fatal link between Steph's informant work and his murder. The full picture finally emerges at a neighborhood party, where the group understands that Mack orchestrated both murders to protect his drug operation and silence the boy who dared to tell the truth through his music.

The hidden truths, confrontations, and revelations that expose who killed Steph.
