He returns to the island transformed, and Hector's fatal car crash eventually reunites him with Helen. The poem closes with Ma Kilman healing Philoctete's ancient wound through a recovered ancestral ritual, and the community, wounded but resilient, moves toward a more connected future.

Derek's return to his childhood home and his encounter with his father Warwick set him on a literary and spiritual quest that carries him across the globe. His travels through New England and Ireland deepen his understanding of colonialism's universal wounds and give him the confidence to write about his own people. From Philoctete's confession that his wound is ancestral to Dennis's discovery of a dead kinsman who becomes his symbolic heir, the narrative turns on moments of recognition and reckoning with history. Achille's spiritual journey to Africa is shown through its emotional core — his helplessness before the past, his father's grief over a meaningless name, and the miraculous sign he reads in a bird's wings on the way home. Derek's own journey leads him from a chance encounter with the figure of Omeros in London into a metaphorical underworld where he must confront the hypocrisy and worth of his own artistic project. The pool ends with two linked acts of healing: Ma Kilman's ritual restoration of Philoctete through recovered ancestral knowledge, and Helen's quiet, wordless return to Achille at the edge of Hector's grave.

The decisive revelations, spiritual journeys, and moments of transformation that reshape every character.
