Meanwhile, Wacey secretly terrorizes Joe's young daughter Sheridan with escalating threats to keep her silent about the weasels hidden in the woodpile. Joe's suspension drives him to investigate with new urgency, and his discovery of an extermination site in a hidden canyon confirms his worst suspicions about deliberate murder and cover-up. When Marybeth is shot and Sheridan finally names her attacker, the truth cascades into Joe's hands, and Vern's forced confession at gunpoint lays bare the full scope of greed and murder.
