Mary's crisis of identity sets the story in motion, while Norman's disturbing confessions and hidden obsessions hint at the darkness festering beneath his ordinary surface. Each new discovery—a wavy mirror, an improvised cover story, a theory about a woman in a window—draws the investigators closer to a shattering truth.
