This pool follows the most pivotal moments across all seven stories in the collection. The Feminist's adoption of performative feminism and his eventual retreat into misogyny and violence set the collection's darkest tone. Alison's one-night stand with Neil, her humiliating attempt to reclaim their history at his wedding, and Kant's hollow coming-out and catastrophic porn commission trace the cost of refusing to accept rejection. Max's arrest for human trafficking and Bee's orchestration of the massive online hoax known as Botgate escalate the collection into satire and metafiction. The collection closes with the revelation that its own final story is a fabricated device, implicating the author in the same cycle of rejection-avoidance the book examines.

This pool fills in the context surrounding the collection's main turning points, tracing how each character's situation deteriorates through a series of consequential smaller choices. The Feminist's early romantic failures and his humiliating encounter with a former admirer lay the groundwork for his radicalization, while Alison's alienation from her friends and her ill-fated purchase of a raven reveal how her isolation compounds step by step. Kant's botched early sexual encounters and the jealousy that explodes when he discovers Julian's private texts expose the communication failures that doom their relationship. Max's romantic manipulation in Barcelona and his covert surveillance of Alison illustrate his inability to distinguish love from control. Bee's exploitation by a fraudulent friend and the viral shitpost that repulses them chart the road toward Botgate, before the collection winds down with an abstract road trip and a dismissive editorial note.

The fictional publisher ends "Re: Rejection" by suggesting Tulathimutte should withdraw from writing altogether if he truly fears being rejected.

This pool collects the moments of revelation and reckoning that define the collection's emotional core. The Feminist reaches a genuine insight about love's limits but refuses to act on it, and his unanswered forum post becomes the catalyst for violence. Alison's humiliation in Neil's email, her discovery that he is building a family with Cece, and her numb awakening the morning after the wedding trace the full arc of her self-defeat. Julian's failed attempt to draw out Kant's true desires exposes the irreconcilable gap between them. Max's disastrous attempt to seek online validation accelerates his downfall, while Bee's early losses — a father's suicide, exploitative friendships, a viral post that repulses them, and a fraudulent friend's unmasking — give way to the one genuine bond in the collection, with their dying mother. The collection closes by arguing through metaphor and metafiction that the willingness to be rejected is the only path to authentic connection.
