Edwin enters a church and confides his strange forest experience to a disguised Gaspery posing as a priest.

Mirella attends a concert by composer Paul and sees his late sister Vincent's video footage of the anomaly in Caiette.

Mirella learns at the post-concert dinner that Vincent died when she fell overboard from a container ship at sea.

Gaspery poses as a journalist and interviews Olive, asking specifically about an airship terminal scene in her novel Marienbad.

Gaspery's sister Zoey presents him with anomaly evidence — a video, a novel passage, and Edwin's letter — and he resolves to become a time traveler.

After five years of training at the Time Institute, Gaspery travels to interview the violinist Alan about the anomaly.

Gaspery breaks Time Institute rules by warning Olive that she will die in the pandemic if she stays on Earth.

Gaspery visits a war-damaged Edwin and tells him the forest anomaly was a real event, not a hallucination.

The Time Institute drugs Gaspery, plants a weapon in his hand in an Ohio underpass, and he is arrested and imprisoned for decades.

Gaspery becomes the violinist Alan in the airship terminal and triggers the anomaly by interviewing his own younger time-traveling self.

Edwin St. Andrew is banished to Canada after publicly condemning British colonialism, where he becomes the first character to experience the anomaly — a flash of darkness, violin music, and a crowd — before confiding in a disguised Gaspery posing as a priest. Decades later, Mirella Kessler attends her ex-friend Vincent's brother's concert, sees footage of the same anomaly, and learns Vincent died mysteriously at sea. In 2203, novelist Olive Llewellyn tours Earth lecturing about pandemics until Gaspery — posing as a journalist — interviews her and finds the anomaly hidden inside her novel. After years of Time Institute training, Gaspery breaks the rules by warning Olive she will die in the pandemic, prompting her to rush home to the moon colony where she survives in lockdown with her family. Gaspery travels to Caiette to witness the anomaly firsthand and watches reality fracture as figures from different eras momentarily overlap, then visits the war-scarred Edwin to confirm his experience was real. After being framed for murder and imprisoned for decades by the Time Institute, Gaspery eventually undergoes surgery, becomes the violinist Alan, and discovers he has always been the one who triggered the anomaly by interviewing his own younger self.

The core events driving Gaspery's time-traveling investigation from exile to anomaly.

Edwin takes art classes in Halifax and spends months sketching boats and people from his boarding house window.

Edwin follows a man named Reginald west to a muddy Saskatchewan farm and feels deeply unsettled by the endless prairies.

Edwin travels to Victoria and has tea at a hotel with Thomas, a friend of his older brother Niall.

Mirella's girlfriend Louisa tells a story about a secret double life that makes Mirella reconsider whether Vincent truly knew about the Ponzi scheme.

Mirella waits at the stage door after Paul's concert and is invited along to dinner at a Brooklyn restaurant with Paul and Gaspery.

Gaspery follows Mirella to a park bench after dinner and asks whether Vincent ever told her about the video she recorded.

A driver on Olive's book tour draws a disturbing parallel between the pandemic in Olive's novel and a new real-world virus spreading from Australia.

Overwhelmed by exhaustion in Shanghai, Olive repeats the words 'it's too much' until her room's AI system asks if she needs help.

A fan shows Olive a tattoo replicating one worn by the character named Gaspery-Jacques in her novel, the fifth such tattoo Olive has ever seen.

Twelve-year-old Gaspery and his classmate Talia visit the Periphery of Colony Two and look out together at the barren surface of the moon.

Gaspery and Zoey keep vigil at their mother's hospital bedside as she dies, and she murmurs about the simulation hypothesis.

Talia warns Gaspery that her parents were ruined by a failed Time Institute mission and urges him not to take the job.

Zoey secretly frees an aging and ill Gaspery from his prison hospital and sets him up as a boarder on a quiet farm.

Gaspery and Talia are reunited as neighboring farm residents, eventually marry, and spend many contented years playing violin together.

After Talia's death, a grieving Gaspery decides to move into the city and begin playing violin in the airship terminal.

Edwin's restless exile in Canada is shaped by art classes in Halifax, an ill-fated detour to a Saskatchewan farm, and aimless wandering through British Columbia that brings him to the forest of Caiette. Mirella's path toward the anomaly begins at home, nudged by her girlfriend's offhand story about deception and followed by her stage-door pursuit of composer Paul and a loaded park-bench conversation with the mysterious Gaspery. On Olive's book tour, telling small moments accumulate: a driver's warning about a new virus that mirrors her novel's pandemic, a breakdown of exhaustion in Shanghai, and a fan's tattoo bearing the invented name of a character Olive didn't know was real. Back in the moon colony of 2401, Gaspery's childhood friendship with Talia at the Periphery and his mother's deathbed murmurings about simulation theory quietly lay the groundwork for his career change, even as Talia herself warns him away from the Time Institute. Gaspery joins anyway, suffers the consequences, and is eventually freed from prison by Zoey, who delivers him to a quiet farm outside Oklahoma City. There he finds Talia again as a neighbor, they marry and spend their happiest years playing violin together, until her death finally sends him to the airship terminal where the loop must close.

The quieter personal journeys and smaller revelations that fill out the story's world.

Edwin leaves the church and spots Father Pike walking in the distance while the disguised Gaspery quickly flees, raising suspicion.

Riding in a cab after meeting Gaspery, Mirella becomes certain he is the same man she saw in the Ohio underpass as a girl.

Standing on a rooftop terrace looking at the moon, Mirella feels nothing when Louisa kisses her and accepts the relationship is finished.

Olive, learning that Dion's new physics project is connected to a government security building, suspects his work involves time travel.

Olive asks to go off the record and admits to Gaspery that she personally experienced the anomaly at an airship terminal.

Zoey tells Gaspery that Edwin died in a psychiatric facility and Olive died on Earth from the pandemic, shocking him into wanting to intervene.

Ephrem recruits Gaspery to join the Time Institute investigation after Zoey refuses to recommend him, celebrating with champagne.

Gaspery confesses to Zoey during a secret nighttime meeting outside Olive's building that he warned Olive about the pandemic.

While researching during lockdown, Olive discovers a record of a Gaspery J. Roberts sentenced to fifty years in prison for homicide in Ohio.

Gaspery returns from witnessing the Caiette anomaly and persuades Zoey to authorize two more time-period visits to complete his investigation.

At a New York gallery party, Gaspery approaches Vincent and she confirms she heard violin music and a sound like hydraulic pressure while filming in Caiette.

Gaspery returns to the Time Institute after visiting Edwin to find Zoey being arrested and Olive's publicist Aretta revealed as a Time Institute agent.

Ephrem checks the timeline and confirms that Gaspery's intervention worked — Edwin died of flu at home with family, not in a psychiatric facility.

Gaspery regains consciousness in an Ohio underpass holding a planted weapon, sees two dead men, and says Mirella's name as police lights flash over him.

Gaspery undergoes laser facial surgery to hide from surveillance and is startled to recognize his new face as the face of the violinist Alan.

The first crack of suspicion opens when Edwin watches Father Pike walking in the distance while the supposed priest Roberts flees, suggesting something is wrong. Meanwhile, Mirella reaches her own private turning point in a cab, becoming suddenly certain the ageless Gaspery is the same man she witnessed in an Ohio underpass as a child — and the realization costs her her relationship with Louisa. On her book tour, Olive independently suspects her husband's secretive physics project involves time travel, and then tells Gaspery off the record that she personally experienced the anomaly, a confession that seals his decision to save her life. In the Time Institute's era, learning from Zoey that Edwin died institutionalized and Olive died on Earth provides Gaspery's true motivation, and Ephrem's recruitment over Zoey's objections sets the investigation in motion. The violations compound — Gaspery admits to Zoey that he warned Olive, while Olive in lockdown independently uncovers a prison record for a Gaspery Roberts in Ohio — and the consequences arrive when Gaspery returns to find Zoey arrested and the Time Institute's machinery closing around him. Dropped into the Ohio underpass, framed for murder, and saying Mirella's name as police arrive, Gaspery's fate locks into place — until prison ends and surgical resculpting reveals the face that will close the loop.

The key discoveries, quiet suspicions, and pivotal decisions that reshape every character's fate.
