Sophia is repeatedly placed in situations where she must decide whether to protect herself or serve a greater cause—whether to stay silent or speak dangerous truths to men who hold more power than she does. Her encounters with skeptical officers, her midnight flight from Beekman Mansion, and her desperate effort to convince Paulding to act all reflect the emotional and moral weight of her choices. The capture of André brings both triumph and anguish, and Sophia's final meeting with him—where she reveals who she truly is—marks the moment she fully accepts what she has sacrificed. Her return home before the execution signals not an escape from responsibility but a quiet, hard-won peace with herself.
