As their relationship deepens and Jasmine becomes pregnant, Tejo struggles to conceal her from inspectors, colleagues, and his estranged wife Cecilia. Visits to a tannery, a breeding center, and his father's nursing home establish the scope of the industry and Tejo's personal obligations. Encounters with his lover Spanel, his estranged wife Cecilia, and his indifferent sister Marisa reveal the emotional isolation at the core of his life. As Jasmine grows from a fearful barn resident into a full presence in his house, Tejo's domestic world transforms, even as the outside world grows more threatening. Beneath the surface of the main plot lies a series of quieter but decisive moments that trace Tejo's psychological unraveling. The death of his son sets everything in motion, stripping away his appetite for meat and his marriage, while small acts of defiance — refusing to have Jasmine killed, cutting her restraining rope — hint at a rebellion that never fully materializes. His father's death triggers the hardening of the stone in his chest, and a series of confrontations with the system's worst abusers, including the sadistic Dr. Valka, deepen his disgust even as he remains complicit. Dreams and symbolic acts, from the chainsaw nightmare to kicking down the zoo's sign to filling Armando's urn with sand, reveal the fractures in Tejo's sense of self. Ultimately, the chilling rationale Tejo offers for killing Jasmine exposes how completely the system has claimed him.

The key decisions, dark discoveries, and emotional breaks that define Tejo's downfall.
