Wayne's infiltration of the constabulary and the group's examination of abandoned hideouts piece together exactly how the gang staged its impossible heists. The gunsmith Ranette provides the specialized weapons needed to counter the Vanishers' Allomancer enforcers, while Marasi's courage under fire proves vital at every turn. The final victory earns Wax a formal legal mandate, and the epilogue reveals the true cost of Miles's extraordinary healing power as he finally dies before a horrified public crowd.

The emotional and intellectual turning points of the novel trace a man remaking himself under relentless pressure. Wax's deliberate act of locking away his lawman identity sets the story's central tension in motion, while small but significant moments — a private challenge from Wayne, a failed meditation, a deduction about Marasi's true parentage — steadily unravel his chosen path of noble duty. The Vanisher attack forces impossible choices in the heat of combat, and Miles's own private reckoning with his split identity mirrors Wax's internal struggle from the opposing side. The discovery of Wax's old revolvers placed by the god Harmony signals his reclamation of his authentic self, and Marasi's hidden act of courage — using her supposedly useless Allomantic power to entrap Miles — proves decisive. The epilogue closes with Miles's cryptic dying words introducing the threat of a god named Trell, and Ironeyes delivering a book from Harmony to Marasi, marking her as a key player in the conflict ahead.

The decisions, discoveries, and emotional shifts that define Wax's transformation.
