Two flashback incidents show Ozzie clashing with Rabbi Binder over the Chosen People and a plane crash, while at home a quiet candle-lighting scene reveals the genuine faith his mother holds, which makes her subsequent slap all the more painful. The day of the crisis begins with small provocations, including a slow Hebrew reading reprimand and Itzie's rude classroom gesture, before escalating into the rooftop standoff.
