Duke Michael rescues a thief named Alex from debt collectors and declares her the lost heir to the Serpent Throne of Troy.

Pope Benedicta applies a magical binding across each devil's wrist, tying them to the mission and to Alex.

Duke Marcian ambushes the convoy with hybrid soldiers; Jakob is fatally stabbed trying to unlock the wagon.

Sunny opens the wagon, releasing Vigga, who tears through the hybrid soldiers and kills Duke Marcian.

Jakob stands back up and shouts at the Vigga-Wolf like a disobedient child; she reverts to her human form.

Duke Michael, too injured to continue, bids Alex farewell and tells her to trust Lady Severa in Troy.

Bishop Apollonia attempts to hand Alex over to Duke Constans for a reward; Rikard mesmerizes the crowd so the group can flee.

The group retrieves a white box from a cursed house in Venice and delivers it to the crime lord Frigo in exchange for passage to Troy.

Duke Constans attacks the group's ship; Jakob and Constans mutually impale each other as the vessel sinks into the sea.

Duke Sabbas corners the reunited group at the Abbey of Saint Demetrius; Balthazar raises plague dead that drag Sabbas into a pit.

The group docks in Troy, where Lady Severa leads a welcoming ceremony and Patriarch Methodius proclaims Alex the rightful heir.

Eudoxia's last surviving son, Duke Arcadius, proposes marriage to Alex rather than fighting her; Michael and Severa support the match.

Alex is crowned Empress in the Basilica of the Angelic Visitation; the devils feel the binding release and prepare to leave Troy.

Cardinal Zizka arrives in Troy, refuses Alex's demand to release the devils, and imprisons them in her ship's hold.

Brother Diaz is appointed to lead the Church's secret Chapel of the Holy Expediency and introduced to a team of monsters and criminals bound to a mission. Duke Michael produces a young thief named Alex as the long-lost heir to the Serpent Throne of Troy, and the Church marks the team with a magical binding to ensure their obedience. Their journey is immediately threatened when one of Eudoxia's sons, Duke Marcian, ambushes the convoy with hybrid soldiers, forcing the team's werewolf Vigga into action for the first time. After surviving several more assassination attempts across Europe, the group finally arrives in Troy, where Alex is proclaimed empress and crowned in a grand ceremony. The celebration collapses almost immediately when Eudoxia's apprentices assassinate Arcadius and Duke Michael reveals his true plan to seize the throne, forcing the devils back into action one last time before Cardinal Zizka arrives to imprison them.

The core mission: escorting a fake princess across Europe to claim a throne.

Jakob and Baptiste take Brother Diaz down a hidden staircase into the chapel dungeon to meet Balthazar, Sunny, and Baron Rikard.

Alex is brought before two chained Oracles in a sealed chamber; their screamed prophecy confirms her as the rightful heir to Troy.

At a formal dinner with Zizka and Duke Michael, Alex learns that Eudoxia's four sons are powerful, treacherous, and have access to forbidden sorcery.

Balthazar attempts to break the papal binding using a stolen prayer sheet on the road to Troy; he fails and vomits again.

Alex leaves bread and cheese in the woods for Sunny; the elf appears and shares an awkward, unexpectedly warm meal with her.

Vigga nearly loses control at the riverbank and quietly warns Alex to run without hesitation if she ever commands it.

To avoid detection, the group abandons their original route and joins the pilgrim Blessed Company traveling toward Venice.

The group navigates flooded Venetian canals by boat and examines the cursed illusionist's house from an apartment across the water.

Balthazar secretly hijacks the Venice ritual to break his own binding, nearly killing Diaz; Alex punches Balthazar and forces him to help the others.

After the box is delivered, Frigo privately offers Sunny a job, telling her that no one is really happy where they are and everyone is lonely.

Balthazar and Baptiste wash ashore and are captured by Countess Jovanka's soldiers; Baptiste's old friendship with the countess secures their release.

Count Radosav and Countess Jovanka meet at the standing stones to negotiate peace but end up kissing passionately instead of fighting.

The group watches traveling actors perform a bawdy satirical play mocking the pope and patriarch in a village inn.

Alex confesses to Sunny that she is not the real princess and begs her to run away together; Sunny refuses and urges her to accept the throne.

Jakob visits Baptiste's tomb in Troy's Basilica and declines Empress Alex's offer to remain in Troy as her general.

While the main mission drives the plot forward, the devils' journey is equally defined by smaller scenes that reveal who these characters are beneath their monstrous reputations. Diaz meets his imprisoned team in the dungeon, Alex is formally confirmed by the Oracles as heir, and Balthazar immediately begins scheming to break his chains. As the group travels through Europe, unexpected moments of warmth and vulnerability emerge: Alex shares a meal with Sunny, Vigga warns Alex about her wolf, and the group finds brief camouflage among a procession of pilgrims. Their stay in Venice involves navigating flooded canals, enduring Balthazar's selfish ritual, and striking a deal with a sharp-eyed crime lord who offers Sunny a rare moment of being truly seen. In the Balkans, the group is separated and must navigate a local war between a bickering married couple, and the survivors ultimately reunite in Troy only to face betrayal once more, ending with Jakob laying Baptiste to rest and refusing to take up another cause.

The quieter moments and side paths that shaped the devils into something like a family.

Alex flees her pursuers through the Holy City fish market and is cornered in an alley by men collecting her debt.

During the papal binding ceremony, Balthazar steals a blank prayer sheet, quietly beginning his plan to escape the Church's control.

Around a campfire, Jakob tells the group that during the Second Crusade, elves turned a cathedral in Acre into a slaughterhouse for humans.

Trekking through the dunes, Diaz confesses to Vigga that his family forced him into monastic vows after he got a girl pregnant.

Inside the cursed house in Venice, Jakob, Vigga, and Sunny each fall into separate illusions targeting their deepest fears and regrets.

Balthazar breaks the illusion haunting the house; Vigga and Jakob emerge from the wreckage and realize they have been fighting each other.

During the sea battle against Constans, Vigga transforms into wolf form; Alex falls from the mast into the ocean as the ship sinks.

Balthazar summons Shaxep, a Duke of Hell, at the standing stones and asks her to break his binding; she examines it and refuses.

Sheltering in a dark warehouse, Diaz finally gives in to temptation and kisses Vigga.

Alex and Sunny take shelter in a ruined barn; Alex kisses Sunny, then leaves alone to steal a horse so they can both escape.

Sunny breaks down and tells Jakob she wanted something good for herself for once; he embraces her and urges her to be grateful for what they had.

On their wedding night, Arcadius tells Alex he only wants a political alliance; his handmaidens then reveal themselves as Eudoxia's apprentices and freeze him to death.

Alex finds a letter in Duke Michael's study confirming that he and Zizka used her as a decoy to eliminate rivals and seize the throne.

Balthazar realizes Lady Severa is actually Empress Eudoxia in a transferred body; she offers him an alliance and freedom, but he declines to stay with the devils.

Jakob climbs through Saint Natalia's Flame and tackles Duke Michael off the top of the Pharos; both men plummet burning into the sea.

Beneath the surface of the mission runs a current of secrets, reversals, and moments that force each character to confront who they really are. Alex's story begins with her cornered in an alley, utterly without power, before being swept into a scheme far beyond her understanding. As the journey unfolds, carefully constructed facades begin to crack: Balthazar plots his escape from the very start, Diaz confesses the lie at the heart of his priesthood, and the cursed house in Venice tears open everyone's deepest wounds. Love emerges in unlikely corners of the chaos, between Diaz and Vigga in a ruined warehouse and between Alex and Sunny in an abandoned barn, tender and genuine despite the world's hostility. The final act strips away the last illusions: a demon confirms even Hell cannot break the pope's power, a trusted ally is revealed as the presumed-dead Empress herself, and Duke Michael's noble mask falls to expose a calculating murderer whose scheme Alex unwittingly enabled from the beginning.
