From the first casual mention of the rocket job at a picnic to Lydia's shocking admission of lifelong antisemitism, these events expose the gap between surface appearances and hidden truths. The Huntsville chapters center on moments of confrontation and exposure—Claudia's cold refusal, Henry's violent breakdown, the smashed apology cake—that gradually strip away comfortable illusions for both Lizzie and Sofie.
