As Nazis begin targeting Jewish neighbors, Corrie and her family build a hidden room and operate a resistance network from their home. A devastating raid leads to the arrest of Corrie, her sister Betsie, and their father Casper, ending their underground work entirely. Father dies in Scheveningen prison, and the sisters endure progressive transfers to Vught and then Ravensbruck extermination camp. Father's gentle wisdom about death, the passing of aunts, and Corrie's mother's miraculous moment at Nollie's wedding reveal a faith shaped over generations long before the war. Under occupation, the family refines their resistance through ration cards, a hidden household of permanent residents, and a practiced alarm system, while a Nazi employee's cruelty foreshadows the ideology that threatens them. Nollie's arrest after answering soldiers honestly tests the family's moral solidarity and their understanding of truth-telling. During Corrie's imprisonment, cell-to-cell communications and a will-reading reunion offer rare moments of connection and relief. After the war, a stranger's gift of a mansion brings Betsie's first vision startlingly to life.

Willem's early warnings about Nazi ideology and his guidance to build an independent resistance network prove critical to the family's survival during the occupation. During the raid and its aftermath, Father's final public declaration of intent and Corrie's solitary Bible readings mark a deepening of personal faith. At Vught, learning the identity of their betrayer and hearing Betsie declare that people taught to hate can be taught to love shifts how Corrie understands suffering's purpose. At Ravensbruck, a miraculous vial of vitamin drops and the discovery that fleas protect their barracks confirm for Corrie that God is actively guiding their path. The pool closes with Corrie opening a rehabilitation home at a former concentration camp, fulfilling the last of Betsie's three visions.
