This pool traces the secondary beats of the story, beginning with Arthur's physical attempts to save his house before Ford maneuvers them both away from danger. At the pub, Ford orders pints and warns Arthur of the end of the world, and soon the Vogon fleet appears and demolishes Earth while Ford equips Arthur with alien tools like The Guide and the Babel fish. Meanwhile, Zaphod Beeblebrox steals the Heart of Gold at its own unveiling, and the Improbability Drive produces wonderfully absurd side effects as Arthur and Ford settle onto the ship. The journey to Magrathea brings quiet revelations, including Trillian's sleepless grief over Earth and the gas attack that incapacitates three of the crew underground. After the main confrontation with the mice, the survivors must improvise their escape and the mice pivot to faking the very question they failed to extract from Arthur's brain.

This pool focuses on the revelations and turning points that give the story its philosophical and comedic depth, beginning with Ford's confession that he is an alien and the detection of the Vogon ships. Arthur and Ford are ejected into space in a moment of certain death, and the narrator's aside about the odds of rescue introduces the thread connecting Trillian to everything. On the Heart of Gold, Arthur's recognition of Zaphod and Zaphod's disturbing confession about tampering with his own brains shift the tone from absurd comedy to something stranger and more unsettling. On Magrathea, a cascade of revelations reframes everything: the commission of Earth, the ten-million-year program cut short, and Deep Thought's explanation that the real problem is not knowing the question. The pool closes with Arthur's chase from the mice, the sudden and surreal neutralisation of the police, and Arthur's quiet decision to make peace with his new existence.
