Small but consequential discoveries accumulate in the early weeks of his recovery: Libby finds letters in his uniform to use as proof of identity, Weybridge weeps alone in the night over his mutilation, and Sally uncovers the hidden arsenal of stolen guns. Joseph's frank warning to Weybridge about staying away from Libby crystallizes the emotional danger building beneath the household's routines, and the emotional center of the story arrives when Libby confesses her murders and finally allows herself to be held. As Morgan's threat closes in, Weybridge steps into a leadership role by devising the battle plan, but the fight ends with Morgan tying both leads in the road before Sally's fatal intervention saves them all. The decisions, discoveries, and emotional shifts that quietly change everything.
