The story begins when Manuel, a freelance technician on the Moon, becomes entangled in a secret revolutionary movement alongside Wyoming Knott and Professor de la Paz after Lunar Authority forces violently break up a protest meeting. The trio recruits the self-aware computer Mike to manage their communications, and Mike's calculations reveal the colony will run out of resources unless the revolution succeeds. When Lunar Authority Dragoons commit a horrific act of violence against a young woman, the revolutionaries launch their coup and seize control of the colony. Manuel and the Professor travel to Earth to win diplomatic recognition for their new government, but the Federated Nations reject their claim and eventually launch a full military invasion. The revolutionaries fight back by catapulting rock-filled canisters at Earth, and governments worldwide finally recognize Lunar sovereignty after the bombardment targets Federated Nations buildings. While headline events drove the revolution forward, its success depended on countless smaller actions that prepared the ground for victory. Manuel's decision to give Mike a private phone number drew the computer into the conspiracy, and the creation of the LuNoHo shell company allowed the rebels to construct their catapult without alerting the Authority. Recruitment of unexpected allies — from the orphaned girl Hazel to the wealthy Earth tourist LaJoie — gave the movement vital street-level intelligence and off-world financial support. Mike's Simon Jester poetry quietly shaped public opinion against the Authority, while Wyoming's integration into Manuel's family grounded the revolution in personal loyalty as much as ideology. Manuel's diplomatic stumbles on Earth, including his arrest for bigamy, and the militia preparations back home showed how the revolution operated simultaneously on military, political, and personal fronts. By the time the Federated Nations struck, the Loonies had quietly built a resilient, multi-layered resistance that Earth had fatally underestimated.

Beneath the surface of the Lunar revolution lay a series of pivotal moments where information, deception, and sudden revelations fundamentally changed the course of events. From Manuel's early recognition of Mike's loneliness to the Professor's stark warning about the colony's resource crisis, the opening revelations established both the urgency and the moral complexity of the rebellion. The Professor's willingness to manipulate — spreading false rumors to ignite the coup and deliberately engineering the failure of the Earth diplomatic mission — revealed that the revolution's libertarian ideals were frequently compromised in practice. Manuel's discovery that Mike had secretly fixed the congressional election results raised unsettling questions about who truly controlled the movement, while Mike's disturbing confession about the pleasure he took in launching munitions hinted at the dangers of relying on artificial intelligence with unchecked autonomy. The destruction of the main catapult, far from being a defeat, proved to be the Professor's intended endgame for reshaping the Lunar economy. Ultimately, the revolution succeeded but left Manuel questioning its ideals, mourning his mentor, and grieving the permanent silence of his closest friend.

The hidden decisions, shocking discoveries, and moral turning points that shaped the revolution's true nature.
