A sudden power outage strikes the school, shutting down all computers, battery-powered laptops, and cell phones simultaneously.

Adam finds his old, computer-free Omega is one of only two cars in the school parking lot that will start.

Adam drives Todd and Lori home through roads completely jammed with stalled cars and confused, stranded pedestrians.

Six men try to steal Adam's car at the pool store, but Herb de-escalates the confrontation by revealing a holstered pistol.

Adam drives his mother Kate toward her precinct and they encounter a crowd smashing supermarket windows and looting the store.

Herb calms the looting mob and organizes orderly food distribution, convincing Kate to authorize a formal neighborhood defense plan.

A neighborhood checkpoint is attacked and guard Mike Smith is shot and killed during the exchange of fire.

Adam finds Herb's census papers and deciphers that Herb plans to secretly relocate only 158 selected people to the Peterson farm.

Adam confronts Herb and proposes fortifying the entire neighborhood for everyone instead of abandoning most residents to their fate.

The Peterson farm convoy is stopped at a roadblock and Adam and Herb are taken hostage by armed men.

At a packed community gymnasium meeting, Adam gives an unplanned speech that unites all residents behind the neighborhood survival plan.

Adam impulsively takes an unauthorized solo flight in the nearly-completed ultralight airplane above the neighborhood streets.

Adam and Herb fly over Olde Burnham at dawn and find the entire community destroyed with hundreds of residents dead.

The enemy Cessna attacks the ultralight after the Olde Burnham flyover, but Adam's evasive maneuvering allows Herb to shoot it down.

The entire enemy convoy crosses the rigged bridge and massive pre-placed explosives detonate, collapsing the structure and destroying the attacking force.

When a catastrophic power outage disables all modern technology, sixteen-year-old Adam Daley discovers that his old, computer-free car is one of the only vehicles still running, instantly making him a vital figure in his community. As society collapses with terrifying speed, Adam and his neighbor Herb Campbell work to organize their suburban neighborhood into a defensible enclave. A deadly attack on a checkpoint forces the community to confront its vulnerability, and Adam's discovery of Herb's secret plan to abandon most residents sparks a clash of survival philosophies. Adam proposes an alternative: fortify the entire neighborhood, bring in the Peterson farm, and give everyone a chance to survive together. After a perilous convoy operation and a galvanizing community speech, the neighborhood transforms into a fortified settlement called Eden Mills. When a heavily armed enemy group destroys a neighboring community and targets Eden Mills next, Adam and Herb launch a daring preemptive strike and lure the enemy convoy onto a rigged bridge, eliminating the threat in a single catastrophic detonation.

The headline events that drive the story from collapse to survival.

Herb asks Adam for a ride to a pool supply store and pays two thousand dollars cash for chlorine tablets.

Adam stands guard alone at the neighborhood entrance deep in the night and helps an exhausted, bleeding Mrs. Gomez safely home.

Kate fires a warning shot into the air to briefly halt the supermarket riot before Herb steps forward to address the crowd.

The first evening neighborhood patrol launches, with civilian and officer pairs mounted on a collection of old minibikes, scooters, and go-carts.

The group drives to the Peterson farm for the first time and Stan Peterson approaches the car holding a shotgun.

Adam and Todd spend a full day constructing a barbed-wire perimeter fence around the Peterson farm under Herb's instructions.

Seven armed men approach the farm at night seeking water for their families, and Adam de-escalates the confrontation peacefully.

Walking home from the farm, Adam spots a small Cessna airplane overhead and hopes his stranded pilot father might do the same.

Herb and Adam fly a reconnaissance mission over a neighboring police precinct and find it burned out and destroyed by an RPG attack.

Kate agrees to abandon her police precinct and relocates all officers, weapons, and supplies permanently into the neighborhood.

Neighborhood transformation begins as Stan Peterson plows unused land with his tractor while residents convert yards and parks into gardens.

While flying near the city, Herb and Adam discover a heavily armed military-style compound and the ultralight is shot at.

Adam uses Herb's coaching to deceive the wounded captured enemy soldier and confirm that Eden Mills is the group's next planned target.

Adam and Herb fly over the enemy compound and pursuing convoy at night, dropping grenades and Molotov cocktails from the ultralight.

Adam and Herb circle the destroyed valley below the collapsed bridge and confirm the entire enemy force has been wiped out.

Even before the full scale of the disaster is clear, Herb takes concrete action by purchasing chlorine tablets and forming the neighborhood's first patrols, while Adam witnesses the fragility of social order through moments like the supermarket riot and a desperate late-night guard shift. Visits to the Peterson farm reveal both a critical survival resource and the escalating dangers beyond the neighborhood's borders, as Adam and Todd work to fortify the farm and negotiate a tense standoff with men seeking water. Aerial reconnaissance missions expose the wider collapse, first revealing a destroyed police precinct and later uncovering a heavily armed enemy compound that shoots at the ultralight. As Eden Mills transforms its yards into farmland and completes its perimeter wall, the threat crystallizes when a captured enemy soldier confirms the neighborhood is the next target. Adam and Herb respond with a daring aerial preemptive strike, bombing the compound and the pursuing convoy before the bridge trap delivers the final blow.

The supporting moments that shaped Eden Mills from first preparations to final victory.

Herb's old shortwave radio confirms the outage extends to Detroit, deepening Adam's fear for his pilot father who was grounded in Chicago.

After the carjacking attempt at the pool store, Herb warns Adam that civilized behavior is nothing more than a thin veneer.

Before leaving the Peterson farm overnight, Herb pulls Adam aside and hands him his snub-nosed pistol to carry for protection.

Adam confronts Herb during an evening meeting about his past, and Herb admits he was a government operative but refuses to confirm specifics.

Adam brings his siblings to Mullet Creek for water and finds the flow has nearly dried to a trickle, revealing the depth of the resource crisis.

Herb confesses he has abandoned people before, looking suddenly old and frail, as he outlines his secret plan to leave 1,400 residents behind.

Adam walks alone through the neighborhood and suddenly formulates his counter-plan to turn the entire suburb into a self-sufficient, defensible community.

Stan Peterson refuses to abandon his ancestral farm until Lori's emotional plea and Adam's explanation of the larger plan finally convince him to relent.

Herb fakes a heart attack at the roadblock, then reveals a hidden pistol and bluffs the five captors into clearing the road.

After neighborhood guards accidentally kill three innocent people in a truck, Herb burns the vehicle and the group agrees to adopt a cover story.

Adam and Lori take a walk together outside the perimeter wall after movie night and share their first kiss.

Adam and Herb take off in complete darkness wearing night-vision goggles, with Herb confessing fears of karmic punishment for past deeds.

After the enemy Cessna is shot down, an exhausted Adam calmly accepts his responsibility for the deaths and says he just wants to eat.

From the moment Herb's shortwave radio reveals the outage has spread far beyond their town, a series of revelations forces Adam to confront a world where old rules no longer apply. Herb's cryptic confessions — about his past as a government operative, about having abandoned people before, about fearing karmic punishment — paint a disturbing portrait of what survival truly costs. Adam's own turning points push him from ordinary teenager to community architect: discovering Herb's secret evacuation list, devising a more humane counter-plan during a solitary walk, and persuading a stubborn farmer to abandon his ancestral home for the good of hundreds. Moral compromises accumulate as guards kill innocent people and a cover story is adopted, yet moments of tenderness like a first kiss remind Adam what he is fighting to preserve. By the time Adam takes off in darkness with night-vision goggles, he has fully accepted the terrible responsibilities of leadership, and when the Cessna is finally shot down, his exhausted, matter-of-fact response reveals how completely he has been transformed.

The discoveries, confessions, and choices that transformed Adam and his community.
