Eleanor nearly confesses her abuse, then begins unraveling Lady Duxbury's diary—learning of Clara's stolen love, Alice's devastating lie, and the death of the child George—each entry reshaping her understanding of what women can endure and survive. Rose's private discovery of her pregnancy, William Wright's disclosure of his legal mission, and Theodore's burning of a corrupt book all show characters choosing their values under pressure. Eleanor then acts on everything she has learned, confronting Lady Meddleson with a damning secret and physically defending herself against a street attacker, while Lavinia's mother wages her own quiet campaign to save her daughter. In the resolution, Lavinia's father is persuaded to relent, Theodore fully embraces Rose, Eleanor refuses safety to save her son, and the epilogue's arrival of Lady Pempton proves the society's work is only beginning.
