Jude serves as the Lead Player of the mobile Playhouse. He wields immense magical power, called Craft, and commands the fanatical devotion of the unmarked masses in South Theatron. Desperate to avoid fighting in the upcoming Great Dionysia tournament, he strikes a dangerous bargain with Riven to use her as a pawn in the deadly competition.

Silenus directs the performances of the Playhouse. He controls the immortal Players and dictates their actions using the Script, a glowing, leather-bound book that exerts magical authority over the cast. He maintains strict discipline within the theater and views the citizens of Theatron merely as an audience to entertain and manipulate for power.

Titus is a powerfully built Tragedian known among the cast as the "wolf." He frequently performs in combat-heavy tragic roles that showcase his physical dominance to audiences. Offstage, he projects the confidence of royalty and acts as a brutal enforcer for the theater's strict rules.

Mattia is the oldest Player on record and specializes in roles that emphasize her lethal grace. Known as the "snake," she dresses in jade diamonds and possesses a sonorous voice. She administers a brutal stage combat assessment to new contenders and holds a weary, perceptive view of theater politics.

Arius is a Comedian known as the "dove" for his gentle and charming exterior. Beneath his pleasant appearance lies a history as a professional poisoner who uses his singing Craft to exact lethal obedience from his targets. He fulfills violent orders without hesitation when cast cuts are required.

Parrish is a small, energetic Player nicknamed the "mouse." She exhibits a childlike energy that sharply contrasts with her deeply macabre habits. She collects grisly trophies from the people she kills, demonstrating the psychological decay of endless performance.

Galen is Riven’s older brother and an adviser to the Northern council. He strictly adheres to Northern laws and trusts the protective power of Eleutheraen gold. He actively blocks Riven's acceptance to a prestigious healing academy in a misguided attempt to protect her fragile health, driving a wedge between them.

Cassia is Riven's aunt and an archivist who studies the history of the Playhouse. She acts as a source of historical knowledge for Riven, advising her to stay home and avoid mirrors when the theater arrives in their district.

Michail is the late father of Riven and Galen, remembered historically as the "Peacemaker." He possessed a distinctive Eleutheraen knife that Riven uses to defend herself as a child. His death remains a forbidden and painful subject in the Hesper household.

Haris is an unmarked citizen living in the shared District of Dionysus and serves as Riven's only friend. He is a fanatical Reveler who wears discarded Player costumes and views the Playhouse's return with religious ecstasy. His obsession leads him to physically scar himself in devotion to Jude.

Marigold works as the Prop Master of the Playhouse. According to legend, she was a mortal who fell into a well of Dionysus’s blood while seeking immortal beauty. She is chained to the floor in her workshop and displays an obsessive infatuation with Jude.

Nyxene serves as the Playhouse's monstrous Stage Manager. She is a lethal shadow creature composed of tangled limbs, obsidian claws, and silver eyes. She acts as Silenus's personal protector and violently enforces the theater's strict curfew.

Dorian is a legendary Bounty Hunter hired by the North to track down missing Players. He is a ruthless tracker missing an ear who believes that individuals with divided loyalties pose an existential threat to Northern society.

Thyone is one of the contenders selected for the Great Dionysia. She undergoes a Craft binding with her mentor, causing her eyes to turn gold, but struggles to adapt to the theater's cutthroat environment.

Phileas is a contender in the Great Dionysia and the twin brother of Thyone. He adapts quickly to the callous environment of the Playhouse, choosing self-preservation over intervening when his sister faces danger from the veteran cast.

Eleni is a petite council guard from the North who bears an Eleutheraen mark on her throat. She actively pursues Riven and Jude during their flight and rigidly enforces the North's laws regarding treason.
