Adversary to the Villain

Evie reveals to a panicked Clare that Malcolm is safe and the figure struck by an arrow was a Silk. Using a dark mist, Evie intimidates King Benedict’s knights, wounding them and sending a threatening message back to the king. Benedict suddenly appears and taunts Evie, revealing that her dagger is imbued with a will of its own. As the dagger begins to glow and vibrate uncontrollably, Evie loses control and is forced to stab Trystan just above his heart. As Benedict and his men retreat, Evie’s power erupts, destroying the surrounding trees and stripping them of color. Overwhelmed with guilt and horror at what she has done, Evie ignores Trystan’s pained protest and flees into the forest.

One week later, a despondent Trystan is secluded in his office. Gideon confronts him about his inaction but withholds the fact that he knows Evie’s location. Keeley arrives with updates, mentioning that Trystan has tasked her with finding a reclusive scholar named Joseph. Trystan explains he needs Joseph to examine Evie’s dagger and determine why the wound it inflicted healed the instant the blade was removed. During the conversation, the book of Rennedawn produces a new prophecy. Blade recognizes a line from it as belonging to a children’s book titled My Love My Sun.
