Background

Authorial Context: Brigid Kemmerer

Brigid Kemmerer is an American author born in 1978. She writes young adult fiction, especially fantasy and paranormal novels, although she writes realistic fiction as well. She is the author of multiple series and standalone novels. Kemmerer’s first books were The Elementals series, which consists of eight novels and novellas published between 2012-2014. In the first book, protagonist Becca gains the ability to control the elements (air, earth, fire, and water) from a boy named Chris, who also has the same powers. Each novel in the series features a new teenage protagonist who also learns to control the elements as part of their coming of age.

Kemmerer is also the author of the Cursebreakers series, an adaptation of “Beauty and the Beast.” The trilogy consists of A Curse So Dark and Lonely (2019), A Heart So Fierce and Broken (2021), and A Vow So Bold and Deadly (2022). Kemmerer is also the author of standalone novels Thicker Than Water (2015) and Call It What You Want (2019), as well as Forging Silver Into Stars (2022)—which is the first book in a new series that takes place in the same world as her Cursebreakers series. Although her work explores dark themes and topics such as pandemics, curses, and murder, they typically feature happy endings.
