Plot Summary

Autumn Travis is a 33-year-old assistant manager at Cozy Coffee in Cozy Creek, a small mountain town in Colorado. She holds a master's degree in fine arts and once dreamed of becoming a bestselling romance author, but a painful breakup with her ex-boyfriend Sebastian Holmes, a former Olympic snowboarder, left her creatively blocked. For 13 years, she has dreamed about a mysterious tall, dark-haired man she calls "Mr. Dreamy," who tells her to be patient and calls her "Pumpkin." Her best friends and coworkers Julie and Blaire encourage her to move forward, and Julie challenges her to write one love-themed haiku per day.

During a morning shift, a man orders a ristretto, a concentrated espresso drink. When Autumn hands him the cup, she recognizes him as the spitting image of Mr. Dreamy. Electricity jolts between them at the slightest touch. He tastes the coffee, declares it terrible, and leaves. The name on his cup reads Alexander. The narrative reveals he is Zane Alexander, heir to the Xander Resorts empire, who has fled New York to escape depression and a public scandal. His ex-fiancée Celine Madison shared their private texts out of context in a dramatized docuseries about his family, making him a tabloid figure. He has returned to Hollow Manor, a gothic house on the mountain that his late mother designed and where the family spent one final autumn season before she began chemotherapy. She died when Zane was 15. His younger sister Harper, who is clairvoyant, calls to tease that she predicted he would meet a woman in Cozy Creek who would stop him in his tracks.

Two weeks later, Autumn goes for an evening run up the mountain and notices lights on in Hollow Manor, long rumored by locals to be haunted. A sudden storm drives her to take shelter on the porch, and she finds the front door unlocked for the first time in years. She explores the house and discovers a magnificent library, where Zane grabs her from behind and demands to know why she is trespassing. He threatens to call the police chief, who knows his family, pressuring her into giving him an IOU in exchange for not having her arrested. She reluctantly agrees.

Three days later, Zane returns to the coffee shop and has someone other than Autumn make his drink, pronouncing it perfect and provoking her frustration. At Bookers, the local pub, he joins Autumn and her friends and asks her to be his friend. She laughs, not realizing he is serious and lonely. His expression shifts to genuine hurt and he walks away. Guilt-stricken, Autumn calls her younger sister Winter, a psychology resident, who advises her to confront her fear of abandonment and give the friendship a chance. Autumn bakes a loaf of pumpkin bread, a gesture her friends recognize as her unconscious love signal, and leaves it at Hollow Manor with an apologetic note. Zane finds it and is touched. They begin texting, and their friendship deepens quickly.

Zane buys Autumn a new phone after she shatters hers, covers hundreds of dollars in customer orders at the coffee shop, and brings her hand-picked coneflowers from his mother's garden. On the first day of autumn, they attend the pumpkin patch together, and their attraction becomes undeniable, though both insist they are just friends. At dinner, Sebastian unexpectedly appears and confronts Autumn. She panics and claims Zane is her boyfriend. Zane plays along seamlessly, declaring he plans to marry her. He reveals his real name, explaining he used "Alex" to protect his identity, and discloses that he and Sebastian were once competitive snowboarders; Sebastian replaced Zane after a career-ending knee injury. They negotiate a fake-dating arrangement: Autumn will accompany Zane to his father Ambrose's upcoming wedding as his girlfriend, and in return, Zane will play her boyfriend through January. The next morning, with Sebastian watching, Zane asks permission and kisses Autumn publicly. The kiss is explosive, and the entire coffee shop witnesses it.

Over Zane's birthday weekend, they carve pumpkins at Hollow Manor and share revealing conversation about their romantic histories and fears. Zane discloses that Celine cheated on him with his best friend Nicolas. Autumn gives Zane her childhood four-leaf clover as a birthday gift. A rainstorm traps them at the manor and they dance in the rain to "September" by Earth, Wind & Fire, fulfilling a promise Zane made to his mother. They share a bed, but Zane refuses to cross the physical line while intoxicated, insisting it would not be fair to her. Harper arrives for his birthday, recognizes Autumn as the girl she played with at the pumpkin patch over 20 years earlier, and predicts they will marry before the end of the year. The town gossip group posts a photo of the couple kissing, forcing them to introduce the relationship to Autumn's parents. At Zane's birthday dinner, Sebastian corners Autumn and reveals the designer dress she is wearing was a gift he sent, not Zane. Zane confirms that Sebastian cheated throughout their six-year relationship. Devastated, Autumn burns the dress in the fireplace. That night, their connection crosses from pretend to real as they make love for the first time.

When Zane's father is rushed to the hospital with a suspected heart attack, Zane flies Autumn to New York on his private jet. The scare turns out to be minor, but it prompts a meaningful reconciliation between Zane and Ambrose, who apologizes for pressuring his son. Harper spends a day outfitting Autumn with designer clothes from her fashion company, Harp. During a trance-like state, Harper delivers a prophecy: Autumn is Zane's twin flame, a destined spiritual counterpart, and she will say yes when the moment comes. At a dinner party hosted by Zane's close friend Weston Calloway, Zane learns that Celine has been socially boycotted and realizes his publicist may have been manufacturing scandals.

Back at his penthouse, Zane proposes with his mother's engagement ring. Autumn says yes. When Celine shows up at the door, Autumn flashes the ring and shuts the door in her face. They initially plan a Las Vegas wedding, but Autumn changes the venue to Cozy Creek, exactly as Harper predicted. The wedding takes place at a secluded mountaintop chapel at golden hour. A butterfly flutters past Zane during the ceremony, a sign he associates with his mother's promise to visit him. Zane flies them to Lake Tahoe for their honeymoon.

At Ambrose's rescheduled wedding, held at the Cozy Creek resort, Celine causes a public scene, screaming she is still in love with Zane. Security removes her, and Ambrose bans her permanently. In the weeks that follow, Autumn begins writing again, inspired by Zane, who offers her a multimillion-dollar advance to write the story of Mr. Dreamy. They discover a hidden letter from his mother in the library, tucked inside a golden copy of Pride and Prejudice. The letter describes a vivid dream of Zane's future wife and their mountaintop wedding, matching their reality in precise detail. Sebastian finds Autumn and delivers a genuine apology, acknowledging Zane's character before walking away for good.

On Autumn's 34th birthday, Halloween, Zane throws her a Cinderella-themed surprise party. They arrive at the annual Pumpkin Ball in a golden carriage and are crowned Pumpkin King and Queen. On New Year's Eve, at Ambrose's penthouse party, Zane reconciles with Nicolas on a balcony, forgiving him and inviting him to Cozy Creek. Autumn presents Zane with her completed manuscript, titled All I Want, dedicated to him. In the final scene, set weeks later during a snowstorm at Hollow Manor, Nicolas arrives for a visit. Julie comes for dinner, and when their eyes meet, electricity crackles between them, suggesting a potential future romance.
