“Dramaturgical Presentation”

In this activity, students will prepare presentations with visual aids (slide decks, handouts, or artwork) on an aspect of production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

One of the many wonderful things about plays is their ability to be performed in front of an audience. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child had its professional debut, or premiere, at the Palace Theatre in London on June 7, 2016. Since then, there have been seven additional productions, including ones on Broadway and in Tokyo.

Producing a play takes a lot of work; many people work behind the scenes to bring the acts, stage directions, and dialogue to life. One of those people is called a dramaturg. Dramaturgs take extensive notes, research any topics necessary for production, and ultimately provide a bridge between playwrights, directors, and other administrative theater staff. For this activity, practice becoming a real-life dramaturg. Choose an aspect of one of the professional productions of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, then use the list below as a guide to help you analyze and present your research.
