Ladawna tells Livia that her pregnancy is already in its 19th week, shocking Livia, who had no idea she was pregnant. Distressed, Livia explains that she has no partner, income, or family support. Ladawna gives Livia the address of a women’s clinic that offers abortion. In an apparent stroke of luck, the clinic is only two blocks from Livia’s apartment. At the clinic, a protestor disguised as a volunteer falsely tells Livia she needs parental consent for an abortion, claiming Indiana law requires it because she is not yet 21. After a week of despair, Livia books a follow-up with Ladawna, seeking advice. When she checks in for the appointment, the receptionist tells her that her insurance has lapsed. Ladawna spots her near tears and pulls her into the hallway, where Livia reports what the fake volunteer said, and Ladawna reveals it was a lie. However, when Livia returns to the clinic, it is closed due to a bomb threat.
Livia calls the clinic and speaks with a coordinator named Pam, who informs her that at over 20 weeks, the procedure must occur in a hospital or specialized clinic for legal reasons. Pam estimates the cost at least $500, assuming Livia still has insurance.
