Activities

Use this activity to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.

“Epilogue”

In this activity, students will complete Dallas and Florida’s story based on details from the novel.

In the novel, Creech ends without providing definitive answers for where the twins will live or whether Z tells them about their parentage. Create an epilogue for the novel providing your own version of what happens after the twins decide to stay with the Moreys. Support your epilogue with specific details from the novel. Consider these points as you write your epilogue.

  • What will be the twins’ connection to Ruby Holler?
  • Who will the twins ultimately live with?
  • Will there be reconciliation between the Morey children and the twins?
  • How will the twins discover who their mother and father are?
  • What will happen to Mr. and Mrs. Trepid?

Identify the ways in which you answered the questions when you share your version of the epilogue with peers. Explain your version using evidence from the novel to support your narrative.

Teaching Suggestion: It may be beneficial for students to first discuss unanswered questions from the novel and their feelings or predictions about those unanswered questions prior to introducing them to the activity.
