Eru, also known as Ilúvatar, is the supreme creator deity of the universe. He exists entirely outside the physical world and initiates the creation of Eä through a massive, harmonious song. He possesses ultimate authority over all spirits and living beings. He rarely intervenes directly, preferring to guide the world through his deputies.

Melkor is the most powerful of the original spirits created by Eru. He possesses immense strength and knowledge but is consumed by pride, envy, and a desire to dominate Arda. Fëanor is widely considered the mightiest, most skilled, and most charismatic of all Elves. He channels his incredible abilities into creating the Silmarils, three flawless jewels containing the light of the Two Trees. He is fiercely proud, highly suspicious, and prone to sudden anger, characteristics that Melkor manipulates to turn him against the Valar.
Thingol, initially named Elwë, is the King of the Sindar (Grey Elves) in Middle-earth. After falling in love with a powerful spirit, he abandons his journey to Valinor to build a kingdom in the forests of Doriath. He is a proud and protective ruler who distrusts the newly arrived Men and the rebellious Noldor.
Melian is a powerful Maia spirit who chooses to remain in Middle-earth rather than live in Valinor. She marries the Elven king Thingol and helps him rule the kingdom of Doriath. She casts a massive magical barrier around their lands to keep out Melkor's dark forces and any unwanted intruders.
Lúthien is the Elven daughter of King Thingol and the Maia Melian, considered the most beautiful of all the Children of Ilúvatar. She inherits significant magical abilities from her mother. When she falls in love with a mortal man, she defies her father's wishes and risks her life to help her lover accomplish a perilous quest.
