He desires a normal life and easily makes friends in Stillhouse Lake, giving his mother a reason to want to stay. He frequently helps their neighbor Sam with roof repairs and dreams of becoming an architect.

Lancel is a local police officer who lives near Gwen in Stillhouse Lake. He initially appears friendly and claims his time is mostly consumed by the area's opioid epidemic. Absalom is an anonymous computer hacker whom Gwen pays for cybersecurity and relocation services. Originally an internet troll who harassed Gwen online, he changed his behavior when her children were threatened. He remains a faceless presence in her life.

Javier is a capable, friendly military veteran who works at the firing range and serves as a reserve deputy. He helps Gwen obtain her concealed-carry permit and respects her diligence regarding firearm safety. He represents a practical, skilled presence in the local community.

Prester is a police investigator assigned to the local murder case. He is a traditional, protocol-driven detective who treats Gwen with heavy suspicion once he learns her true identity. He embodies the rigid nature of the justice system, relying heavily on assumptions.
