Meet the key characters, with insights into their roles, motivations, and relationships—spoiler-free.
Mina is an artist living in Galway who supports herself through casual jobs and casino winnings. Grieving the loss of her mother and estranged from her sister, she lives an isolated life and spends much of her time sketching the strangers she observes in public. When her car breaks down in the woods, she seeks shelter in a concrete building called the coop, where she must learn to survive alongside three other captives.
Madeline is a tall, severe woman who enforces the rigid rules of the coop. She constantly hides her body under a large shawl or blanket and focuses entirely on pragmatic survival. Her unbending adherence to routine creates friction with the other captives, but she insists that her cold, emotionless system is the only reason they are still alive.
Ciara is a bubbly, green-eyed redhead who struggles with profound grief over her missing husband, John. Despite her despair over their separation, she remains the emotional core of the coop's makeshift family. She often acts out of kindness rather than caution, making her the primary source of warmth in an otherwise terrifying environment.
Daniel is a 19-year-old young man who originally fled an abusive home only to become trapped in the Connemara woods. He holds the responsibility of checking the animal traps around the coop for food. He acts impulsively and often struggles under Madeline's harsh criticism, which triggers memories of his violent father.
John is Ciara's husband who became trapped in the forest alongside her. Carrying immense guilt for bringing her to Connemara in the first place, he leaves the relative safety of their shelter to desperately map the surrounding area and search for an escape route.
Husband of Ciara
Professor David Kilmartin is a university academic with a deep interest in local folklore and history. He is responsible for orchestrating the construction of the coop and its underground bunker, leaving behind video logs and research materials that detail his dangerous experiments in the forest.
Peter is a bartender at Mina's local pub in Galway who struggles with severe alcohol addiction. He pays Mina to transport a golden conure to a friend in Connemara, a simple task that inadvertently sets her terrifying journey into motion.
Employer of Mina
Original Owner of The Parrot
An unnamed, tall woman in Galway with flawless, alabaster skin. Mina dubs her "the android" because she maintains a completely expressionless face and walks through the city showing total indifference to the crowds around her.
Artistic Subject of Mina
Jennifer is Mina's biological sister. She is highly judgmental of Mina's lifestyle choices as a struggling artist and frequently expresses her belief that their late mother would be disappointed in how Mina lives her life.
Estranged Sister of Mina
A kind-hearted bus driver operating a tourist route near the forest. He acts as a good Samaritan, willing to stop and provide assistance to people stranded on the road.
Rescuer of Mina
A yellow golden conure that Mina agrees to transport across the country. The bird serves as Mina's sole companion when her car breaks down and its unexpected chirps alert the inhabitants of the coop to Mina's presence in the woods.
Dependent of Mina
Former Pet of Peter
