The courtyard is filled with basilisks having sex. Caspen leaves Tem and Gabriel to look around. Gabriel is fascinated, noticing the tension emanating from a group of Senecas and asking why Tem doesn’t want to introduce him to Apollo. They encounter Damon, Caspen’s younger brother, and the two men immediately begin flirting. Tem drags him away hurriedly. Eventually, Gabriel demands to know why Tem is being so rigid, pointing out that he can’t experience basilisk culture if she won’t let him mingle or experiment. Tem relents and a short time later, Gabriel and Damon begin kissing.
Watching Gabriel and Damon together, Tem relaxes. Caspen returns and an orgy begins. Throughout the night, Tem and Gabriel participate while Caspen facilitates their pleasure. Gabriel and Damon repeatedly return to each other. Tem is happy to see Gabriel embracing basilisk culture so seamlessly. When Caspen notices Tem’s ambivalence about Apollo, he orders her to kiss his brother, but she refuses. Eventually, Gabriel asks to stay with Damon and leave in the morning. Caspen consents, and as Tem prepares to leave Gabriel, a cry pierces the courtyard.
