Narrated by Thiago Di Bianco, the chapter opens with him dismissing Kami as shallow and superficial. When she refuses to let Cameron accompany Taylor on an errand, Thiago tunes her out and focuses on organizing basketball workouts instead.

Back inside, he cooks macaroni and cheese—a responsibility he has taken on since his mother began working overtime shifts at the hospital. She rushes in looking for Taylor’s immunization records, gives them to Taylor to deliver to the principal, tells Thiago not to let his brother stay up too late, and leaves without eating. Thiago packs her a container of food to take on her break.

At dinner, Taylor relays a rumor that Coach Klebb plans to retire before Christmas and has mentioned Thiago as a potential replacement. Thiago dismisses the idea out loud, but privately dwells on it—coaching is the most he feels he can realistically aspire to now that his dream of playing professionally is gone.

While cleaning up, Thiago watches through the kitchen window as Kami and her little brother, Cameron, joke around while washing dishes. He is smiling without realizing it until Taylor calls him out. Taylor remarks that Kami has grown up noticeably, which irritates Thiago, who flatly writes her off as attractive but empty.
